Rueger's, located inside The Commonwealth hotel, pays homage to the original eatery that opened on this site in 1846. Specializing in Southern comfort food with a healthy and modern twist, everyone will find something on our men that hits the spot. We are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and in our quest to give our guests a unique, local experience, brew coffee roasted at Richmond's Black Hand Coffee Company and serve some of RVA's best local moonshine and craft beers.

We’re a community of runners, hikers, bikers and ballplayers. We’re an outdoor playground, designed by Mother Nature, with class III and IV rapids running right through our downtown. A 52-mile bike trail runs along the James. The Richmond Marathon and Ukrop’s 10k are huge celebrations, and the whole region comes out to cheer on our local teams. Designed by Thomas Jefferson, the State Capitol houses America’s oldest legislative assembly. Daily one-hour guided tours showcase historical statuary and paintings, rare exhibit objects, and newly restored legislative chambers. Self-guided tours also are available. And don't miss the Virginia Civil Rights Memorial, unveiled in 2008 at Capitol Square. The Executive Mansion is the oldest continuously occupied governor’s home (since 1813) in the country.

In 1951, Barbara Johns and other students led a strike to protest the conditions at their racially segregated school. The students then contacted NAACP attorneys; the lawsuit that followed was joined with four other cases as Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas (1954), which ruled against “separate but equal” education. This memorial recognizes these Virginians.

Among the oldest in the nation, this 12-acre park is home to the National Historic Landmark Virginia State Capitol designed by Thomas Jefferson, the oldest purpose-built U.S. executive mansion still serving as a governor's residence, and many monuments and memorials. Walk winding paths in a landscape that has both seen and shaped American history. Garden secret: This park has an empty crypt. The George Washington Equestrian Monument was to be the President's final resting place, but he remains buried at his Mount Vernon home.
