Games Impact • Begun in 1987 and held every other year, The National Senior Games has grown to become the largest qualified multisport event in the world. • Event is governed by the National Senior Games Association (NSGA), a nonprofit Affiliate Organization Council Member of the United States Olympic Paralympic Committee. • 11,903 athletes are registered for the 2022 Games, making these the 3rd largest in our history. • All competition and ancillary events are free and open to the public to enjoy. • 2,000+ volunteers from the host region will help stage this massive event. • The 2017 Games generated in excess of $36.1 million in direct economic impact for Birmingham. (Source: Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau). Sport Information • More than 1,100 medal events will be contested, over 13 days, at sport venues throughout the region. • 21 Medal Sports: Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Bowling, Cornhole, Cycling, Golf, Pickleball, Power Walk, Race Walk, Racquetball, Road Race, Shuffleboard, Softball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Track & Field, Triathlon and Volleyball. • Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, plus 4th-8th place ribbons, are awarded for each age division event. • Age Divisions o Individual sports - male and female divisions compete in five year increments, ages 50 through 100+ o Team sports - male and female divisions compete in five-year increments, ages 50 through 80+ o Older athletes sometimes “play down” to a lower age group, usually in team sports and doubles play.


Preferred months are June, July and August for 12 competition days. Secondary months are May and September. Other months may be considered.
