Albert takes home first AJGA win at #JackBurkeJr
Houston, TX– Jake Albert of Blacksburg, Virginia, took the second-round lead and maintained it to win the 2023 Jack Burke Jr. Invitational.
The class of 2025 grad shot a 7-under-par 206 over of the course of the week at Champions Golf Club.
Albert had a steady front nine on the final day, with birdies on the par-5 No. 5 and par-5 No. 9. On is back nine, he carded an eagle on par-5 No. 13 and birdie on par-4 No. 15 sealing his three-shot victory.
It gives me a lot of confidence going into my next tournament which is Junior Players, I know I am capable of winning, so as long as I play my game, I’ll be fine.

Albert’s score of 7-under-par 206 included rounds of 71-67-68. He entered the week ranked No. 118 in the Rolex AJGA rankings.
Henry Guan of Dallas, Texas, birdied the par-4 No. 3 and par-5 No. 5 to start his final round. He had an eventful back nine that included three birdies, for a two-under-par 69. Altogether, Guan finished with a 4-under-par 209.
Charlie Wylie of Houston, Texas, finished solo third at 2-under-par 211. He jumped up 16 positions throughout the final round, thanks to a tournament-low score of six-under-par 65.
Eric Yun of Menlo Park, California, and William Ma of San Diego, California, finished tied for fourth, shooting a one-under-par 212.
Bowen Ballis of The Woodlands, Texas, and Christian Pardue of Arlington, Tennessee, shared the sixth spot, at even-par 213.
Seven players finished in a tie for eighth: Ryan Downes of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, Brooks Simmons of Dallas, Texas, Will Gordon of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Andrew Hinson of Huntsville, Alabama, Michael Lugiano of Jackson Township, Pennsylvania, Parker Sands of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Aidan Dortch of Dallas, Texas.
American Junior Golf Association
The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit association dedicated to the overall growth of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships. With over 10,000 members ages 12-19 from 50 states and 60 foreign countries, the AJGA will conduct over 250 championships this year from January to December. Each year AJGA seniors secure more than $26 million dollars in athletic and academic scholarships from participating in the AJGA. Through initiatives like the Liberty National Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant, a financial assistance program, and Leadership Links, a service-oriented platform that teaches juniors charitable-giving skills, the AJGA fosters the growth of golf’s next generation. AJGA is open to explore new opportunities domestically and internationally. At this time, there is a strong priority to bring new events to the Western Region.
