Happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Play Like a Girl.

Today, we celebrate women’s contributions to athletics and those who have paved the way towards equality on and off the field. In 1987, National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) was created as a day to recognize the accomplishments in women’s sports and to shed light on the need for equality for women in sports. This special day was first created to remember Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman, her contribution to volleyball, and her promotion of equality in sports. NGWSD also recognizes the anniversary of the Title IX law, which ensures all collegiate athletes receive equal access to federal funding assistance, regardless of gender. Today marks the 50th anniversary since Title IX’s passage.

Happy National Girls & Women in Sports Day from Playeasy. Here’s to the women who continue to show up and lead on the field, sidelines, and in the conference room. Let’s continue to #PlayLikeaGirl everyday and empower women to keep changing the game.
