This past September, Wintrust Sports Complex was proud to welcome the National Gay Basketball Association (NGBA) for their 35th Annual Coady Roundball Classic National Championship — marking the first time this prestigious and inclusive event was hosted right here in Bedford Park.
The weekend brought together 52 teams from across the United States, representing cities from coast to coast — from San Francisco and Dallas to New York and Chicago — all competing for a national title in a celebration of unity, competition, and community through basketball.
Founded in 2002 by Mark Chambers, the NGBA is an LGBTQ+ sports organization dedicated to promoting inclusion, visibility, and athletic participation within the basketball community. The association helps LGBTQ+ players form city leagues, travel teams, and provides opportunities for individuals to connect with others who share both a love for the game and a commitment to diversity and belonging.
Hosting this event was a true honor for Wintrust Sports Complex, as it aligns with our mission to provide a welcoming space for all athletes and organizations — fostering not only competition but also connection. The energy throughout the weekend was electric, the competition fierce, and the camaraderie inspiring.
We’re proud to have provided the stage for this milestone event and look forward to continuing to support diverse and inclusive sporting events that bring communities together through the power of sport.
