Ocala-trained horses won ALL three legs of the Triple Crown in 2025!

A horse who trained in Ocala won the Belmont Stakes this weekend, earning its second victory among the three races in the Triple Crown just a few weeks after another Ocala-trained horse won the other race (Preakness Stakes).

Sovereignty claimed victory at the 157th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 7. The victory was the second for the horse among the three legs of the Triple Crown.

In early May, Sovereignty claimed victory in the biggest horse race in the world, the Kentucky Derby. That race is the first leg of the Triple Crown, which is thoroughbred racing’s greatest honor.

A couple weeks after Sovereignty claimed victory in the first leg of the Triple Crown, Journalism claimed victory in the Preakness Stakes, which is the second leg. Both Sovereignty and Journalism received their early training at Bridlewood Farm in Ocala, with the latter being part owned by it.

The victory continues a long streak of horses with ties to the Ocala outperforming the competition on the world’s biggest stage.

This year, at least half of the horses who competed in the Kentucky Derby had ties to Marion County.
The same was largely true for both the Belmont Stakes and Preakness Stakes.

Last year, another horse with ties to Marion County, Mystik Dan, claimed victory in the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby.
