“Passive Tourism” and Healthy Communities

Auburn‑Opelika’s disc golf courses do far more than host tournaments. In August alone, players logged 458 rounds and 681 hours across Tumble Tree DGC, The Rock at Spring Villa, and The Graveyard at Spring Villa, which equals about 1,974,260 steps and 1,504 km or 935 miles of walking, a clear signal of healthier daily activity and time spent together on the course.

The courses welcomed at least 224 player visits by UDisc users, including 74 first‑time visitors and 9 people recording their first‑ever UDisc rounds, which shows how these spaces bring in new participants and help neighbors build relationships.

They also act as “passive tourism drivers.” Even with zero formal events scheduled in August, the data shows 103 visits from 30+ miles away, 50 from 150+ miles, and 20 from 300+ miles, with visitors spanning 16 states, so economic impact follows without additional programming once the courses are in place.

Strong visibility on UDisc, including 51 new ratings and 11 wishlist adds plus statewide popularity ranks at No. 15, No. 77, and No. 109, reinforces year‑round pull. Together, these metrics show a dual benefit for Auburn‑Opelika: happier, healthier residents at home and measurable visitor traffic that supports local businesses.
