We’ve put together a breakdown on all of the sports options we offer at Playeasy.  Check out the 80+ sports (in alphabetical order!) that are on Playeasy and some fun facts about all of them below!

Air Race

  • Space Type: Flight course
  • Space Requirements: 
  • Multiple airport stops along a set course equipped with suitable runway space.
  • Number of People who Play: Individual and team competitions.
  • Fun Fact: Air racing dates back to 1909, when early pilots used racing to test airplanes. The first international meet took place in Reims, France.

Archery

  • Space Type: Roving Course (Field Archery) or Archery Range (Target Archery)
  • Space Requirements: 
    Field Archery: Shooting lanes must be set so that any arrows that miss the target will not enter an area with other archers or spectators. Targets should be placed on top of a rise where archers cannot see where missed arrows will travel.
    Target Archery: a grass sports field that is 124 yds x 41 yds when there is no backstop and 43 yds x 21 yds when a backstop is used.  
  • Number of People who Play: Individual and team competitions.
  • Fun Fact: Archery was included as an Olympic sport for women in 1904 – one of the earliest sports to do so!

Artistic Swimming

  • Space Type: Pool
  • Space Requirements: The pool must be at least 3m deep, 20m wide, and 25m long.
  • Number of People who Play: Duet (two athletes) Team (8 athletes)
  • Fun Fact: A key requirement of Artistic Swimming is for athletes to complete routines while underwater for an extended period of time. Some athletes can perform leg techniques while holding their breath for more than 30 seconds!

Australian Football

  • Space Type: Field
  • Space Requirements: Oval field that is 135m to 185m long and 110m to 155m wide
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 18
  • Fun Fact: Australian Football (Australian rules) is the most popular spectator sport and most viewed Badminton shuttles can reach over 200 mph!

Badminton

  • Space Type: Indoor or outdoor multipurpose area
  • Space Requirements: Flat area that allows for a 44 ft x 20 ft court with 30 ft of vertical clearance. 5 ft badminton net in the center of the court.
  • Number of People who Play: 2 – 4
  • Fun Fact: Badminton shuttles can reach over 200 mph!

Baseball

  • Space Type: Baseball Field
  • Space Requirements:
    Tee Ball: Infield is a square with 50 ft on each side. 125 ft minimum to the outfield fences. 
    Little League: Infield is a square with 60 ft on each side. 46 ft from home plate to the pitcher’s plate. 200 ft minimum to outfield fences. 
    High School, College, MLB: Infield is a square with 90 ft on each side. 60 ft 6 in from home plate to the pitcher’s plate. Left and right field foul poles must be a minimum of 325 ft from home plate. The center field fence must be a minimum of 400 ft from home plate. 
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 9 players. 
  • Fun Fact: Second base is the base that is stolen the most! 

Basketball

  • Space Type: Basketball Court 
  • Space Requirements:
    WNBA: Court- 94 ft by 50 ft, Hoop Height- 10 ft
    NBA: Court- 94 ft by 50 ft, Hoop Height- 10 ft
    NCAA: Court- 94 ft by 50 ft, Hoop Height- 10 ft
    High School: Court- 84 ft by 50 ft, Hoop Height- 10 ft
    FIBA (international): Court- 91.86 ft by 49.21 ft, Hoop Height- 10 ft
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 5 players.
  • Fun Fact: The first basketball nets were made from peach baskets!

Beach Volleyball

  • Space Type: Outdoor Sand Court 
  • Space Requirements: 26.2 foot square with a 7 ft 11 in high net at the center of the court during male matches. For female matches, the net is set at a height of 7 ft 4 in.
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of two 
  • Fun Fact: Beach Volleyball began in 1915 on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii!

BMX

  • Space Type: Track
  • Space Requirements: 350-400 meter track.
  • Number of People who Play: 8 Individual riders.
  • Fun Fact: The height of the BMX start ramp is the equivalent of two African Elephants (8 Meters)!

Bowling

  • Space Type: Bowling Alley 
  • Space Requirements: 87 ft (16 ft approach, 67.5 ft lane and pinsetter machine, 3.5 ft service aisle)
  • Number of People who Play: Team (8 total players, 4 per game) or Individual Play
  • Fun Fact: The first indoor bowling alley, “Knickerbockers”, was built in New York in 1840!

Boxing

  • Space Type: Multipurpose space
  • Space Requirements: 18 ft x 22 ft boxing ring
  • Number of People who Play: 2
  • Fun Fact: George Foreman has made more money selling grills than for his successful boxing career!

Broomball

  • Space Type: Ice Hockey Rink (or gym floor)
  • Space Requirements: Indoor or outdoor 200 ft x 85 ft ice hockey rink (or gym floor). 
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of six.
  • Fun Fact: In the beginning of Broomball, players dipped real corn brooms in water and waited until they froze to play with them!

Cheerleading

  • Space Type: Indoor or Outdoor Multipurpose Space
  • Space Requirements: Open floor space with a minimum ceiling height of 20 feet if indoors. 
  • Number of People who Play: 10-30 
  • Fun Fact: Cheerleading began in the US in 1884 at Princeton University!

Contact Football (Football)

  • Space Type: Football Field 
  • Space Requirements: 120 yd x 53 1/3 yd
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 45 players. Each team has 11 players on the field at a time.
  • Fun Fact: When Teddy Roosevelt was president, he threatened to ban football unless rules were established to ensure player safety. 

Cornhole

  • Space Type: Indoor or Outdoor Multipurpose Space 
  • Space Requirements: A cornhole court is 8-10 ft wide and 40-45 ft long with two cornhole boards and designated pitcher’s boxes. The pitcher’s box is a 4 ft x 3 ft rectangle at the end of the court. 
  • Number of People who Play: Singles- two teams of 1, Doubles- two teams of 2
  • Fun Fact: The original cornhole bean bags were filled with corn kernels! 

Cross Country

  • Space Type: Course
  • Space Requirements: Open-air, natural terrain course, between 4-12 Kilometers long
  • Number of People who Play: Individual and Team
  • Fun Fact: The origins of cross country date back to a 19th Century English game called “the proper chase”!

Curling

  • Space Type: Large multipurpose area that allows temperature control.
  • Space Requirements: Curling Sheet – 146 to 150 ft in length x 14.2 to 15.7 ft in length. 
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams with 4 players. 
  • Fun Fact: Curling traces its roots to the 1500s.

Cycling

  • Space Type: Paved Road
  • Space Requirements: 30-150+ miles of paved space. 
  • Number of People who Play: 10 to 20 per team
  • Fun Fact: Riders are commonly put in two groups known as “classics” and “stage” riders. “Classics” are cyclists that excel at the super hard one-day classics races, while “Stage” cyclists are those that excel at either winning or supporting the team leader during the long 7-21 day stage racing season like the Tour de France.

Dance

  • Space Type: Dance Studio (or Indoor Multipurpose Space)
  • Space Requirements: The space must have the ability to accommodate 100 square feet per student. If the space is needed for performances, it should be 4,800-5,000 square feet with a minimum ceiling height of 16 feet. 
  • Number of People who Play: 1 to ~20
  • Fun Fact: One ballet performance can take up to 5,000 hours of practice.

Disc Golf 

  • Space Type: Disc Golf Course 
  • Space Requirements: Large outdoor space with 9 or 18 holes. Courses typically allow 200+ feet per hole. 
  • Number of People who Play: Five or fewer
  • Fun Fact: The first game was held in Bladworth, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1926.

Diving  

  • Space Type: Pool 
  • Space RequirementsPool with a diving board or diving platform 
  • Number of People who Play: One individual dives at a time. Can be an individual activity or team sport. 
  • Fun Fact: The first diving meet in the United States was held at the University of Pennsylvania in 1907.

Dodgeball

  • Space Type: Indoor or Outdoor Court
  • Space Requirements: Any court that has marked boundaries and a center line (ex: Soccer Field, Football Field, Basketball Court, or Volleyball Court)
  • Number of People who Play: 6 players on the court and 4 substitutes. 
  • Fun Fact: Dodgeball was played in Africa over 200 years ago, and players threw rocks and hard matter at the other team!

Drone Racing

  • Space Type: Air Course
  • Space Requirements: Outdoor, open-air course, with or without obstacles
  • Number of People who Play: Individual pilots participate in heats.
  • Fun Fact: Pilots fly drones in FPV (first person view), so they only see what the drone sees!

Equestrian

  • Space Type: Equestrian Facility (Barns, Stables, Riding Halls)
  • Space Requirements: For more than one pair to ride at a time the rectangle shape must be at least 50 to 60 ft wide and 90 to 120 ft long.
  • Number of People who Play: 1-20 depending on the discipline. 
  • Fun Fact: Equestrian is one of the only Olympic sports where men and women can compete against each other!

  • Space Type: Indoor multipurpose area
  • Space Requirements: Large area with ease of connecting electronics 
  • Number of People who Play: Typically five players per team
  • Fun Fact: The 2019 League of Legends World Championship Grand Finals had more viewers than the 2020 Super Bowl. 

Fencing

  • Space Type: Piste (or Strip)
  • Space Requirements: 14 meters long x 1.5 to 2 meters wide. Can be rubber, aluminum, or metallic. 
  • Number of People who Play: Singles or Team Relay.
  • Fun Fact: Fencing suits are white, so touches in the early days could be recorded as the tip of the weapon dripped ink!

Field Hockey

  • Space Type: Filed Hockey Turf/Grass Field 
  • Space Requirements: 100 yd x 60 yd
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 11 players. 
  • Fun Fact: At the 2012 London Olympics, field hockey was the third most spectated sport!

Fishing

  • Space Type: Body of Saltwater or Freshwater 
  • Space Requirements: Determined by tournament officials.
  • Number of People who Play: Individuals or Teams 
  • Fun Fact: More than 44 million Americans enjoy fishing every year!

Fitness Training 

  • Space Type: Indoor or Outdoor multipurpose area
  • Space Requirements: Varies depending on group size
  • Number of People who Play: Varies
  • Fun Fact: Listening to music while exercising can improve performance by 15%.

Flag Football (Non-Contact Football) 

  • Space Type: Indoor or Outdoor Field
  • Space Requirements: 100 yard field divided into 25 yard boxes
  • Number of People who Play: 7 on 7, 12 person roster 
  • Fun Fact: Flag Football became very popular on military bases in the 1940s. Soldiers played it recreationally, and it kept them in great shape!

Footgolf

  • Space Type: Foot Golf Course or Golf Course
  • Space Requirements: 18 holes averaging  157 yds.
  • Number of People who Play: Single, Twosome, or Foursome
  • Fun Fact: Footgolf emerged in the US in 2009 when Golf was declining in popularity with young people. The introduction of the sport financially saved many golf courses in the United States!

Futsal 

  • Space Type: Hard Indoor Court
  • Space Requirements: ~ 40 m x 20 m 
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 5 players.
  • Fun Fact: Futsal originated in Uruguay in 1930 after a local coach was tired of cancelling outdoor games due to poor weather.

Gaelic 

  • Space Type: Grass Pitch
  • Space Requirements: Rectangular field approximately 137 meters long and 82 meters wide. 
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 15
  • Fun Fact: Gaelic is the most popular spectator sport in Ireland. 

Golf 

  • Space Type: Golf Course 
  • Space Requirements: 9 or 18 holes 
  • Number of People who Play: 1 to 4
  • Fun Fact: The word “Caddy” comes from the French word “Cadet (ca-DAY)” which means youngest child. 

Gymnastics 

  • Space Type: Large open Space 
  • Space Requirements:
    For Women: Large open space with enough room for a 12m x 12m floor, balance beam, vault, and uneven bars. 
    For Men: Large open space with enough room for 12mx12m floor, pommel horse, still rings, vault, high bar and parallel bars.
  • Number of People who Play: Gymnasts compete individually, but are often part of a team. 
  • Fun Fact: Gymnastics was officially established as a sport in 1862.

Handball 

  • Space Type: Indoor Court 
  • Space Requirements: A standard four wall court is 40 feet long, 20 feet wide, and 20 feet high with a back wall that is 12-14feet high
  • Number of People who Play: 7 players on each side with 7 substitutes. 
  • Fun Fact: The rules of modern handball were created in 1906 in Denmark.

  • Fun Fact: The Anaheim Ducks were originally named the Mighty Ducks after the Disney movie!

Ice Skating

  • Space Requirements:
    Olympic Rink: 197 ft by 98.4 ft
    NHL Rink: 200 ft x 80 ft
  • Number of People who Play: Singles and Pairs
  • Fun Fact: Figure skating got its name from the figure eights that were drawn on the ice in early competitions. 

Judo

  • Space Type: Dojo
  • Space Requirements: Varies
  • Number of People who Play: 2
  • Fun Fact: Judo was created as a way to use the powers of the body and mind!

Karate 

  • Space Type: Martial Arts Studio (or Indoor Multipurpose Area)
  • Space Requirements: 8 Meters x 8 Meters
  • Number of People who Play: 2 
  • Fun Fact: Karate stems from two words “Kara” means empty and “te” means hand!

Kickball

  • Space Type: Baseball/Softball Field 
  • Space Requirements: 3 Bases, Pitcher’s Mound, Home Plate
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 8-11 people.
  • Fun Fact: Kickball, originally called Kick Baseball, was invented in Cincinnati to help children understand the rules of baseball. 

Lacrosse 

  • Space Type: Outdoor/ Indoor Turf/Grass Field
  • Space Requirements: 100 yd x 60 yd
  • Number of People who Play
    Women: Two teams of 12 players. 
    Men: Two teams of 10 players. W
  • Fun Fact: Native Americans invented lacrosse!

Martial Arts

  • Space Type: Martial Arts Studio (or Indoor multipurpose space)
  • Space Requirements: 10 ft x 10 ft empty area that can have roll out mats added.
  • Number of People who Play: Varies on form
  • Fun Fact: While most forms of Martial Arts originated in Asia, others originate from Brazil, France, and Africa!

  • Space Requirements: Off road terrain, 800m to 100km depending on type of race
  • Number of People who Play: Singles and teams
  • Fun Fact: Recreational mountain biking originated in the United States!

Paintball 

  • Space Type: Paintball Field/Arena
  • Space Requirements: Size varies, field boundaries must be clearly marked. 
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams with an even number of players.
  • Fun Fact: Paintball guns and paintballs were developed in the 1960s to help foresters mark hard to reach trees! 

Pickleball 

  • Space Type: Pickleball Court
  • Space Requirements: 44 ft x 20 ft for singles and doubles matches. 
  • Number of People who Play: Most commonly doubles ( two teams of two), but can also be played as singles (one on one).
  • Fun Fact: The sport was named after inventor, Joel Pritchard’s dog, Pickles. 

Polo 

  • Space Type: Polo Ground
  • Space Requirements: Grass field that is 300 yards long by 200 yards wide. 
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of four players on horseback.
  • Fun Fact: The sport was introduced to the United States in 1876, and the first games were played in New York City and in Westchester County, NY. 

Quidditch 

  • Space Type: Quidditch Pitch 
  • Space Requirements: Rectangular pitch 60 x 36 yards with three hoops of varying heights at each end. 
  • Number of People who Play: 6 players on the field at a time. Teams have a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 21 players. 
  • Fun Fact: J.K. Rowling mentioned that the word Quidditch was a completely made up word she created after deciding the wizard sport should start with the letter “Q”. 

Racquetball 

  • Space Type: Racquetball Court 
  • Space Requirements: Indoor or outdoor enclosed court that is 40 ft x 20 ft. 
  • Number of People who Play: Singles- Two teams of 1, Doubles- Two teams of 2
  • Fun Fact: Racquetball was created in a YMCA in Connecticut. 

Rock Climbing

  • Space Type: Natural Rock Formation or Artificial Rock Wall
  • Space Requirements: Style of climbing may require belay, rope, and anchor systems.
  • Number of People who Play: 1
  • Fun Fact: Climbing is set to debut in the 2020 (now, 2021) Olympics!

Roller Sports

  • Space Type: Roller Rinks, Skate Parks, Multipurpose Areas
  • Space Requirements: Varies
  • Number of People who Play: Varies
  • Fun Fact: Three disciplines of roller sports are offered in the World Games: Artistic Skating, Inline Hockey, and Speed Skating.

Roundnet

  • Space Type: Outdoor Multipurpose Space
  • Space Requirements: Minimum of 30′ x 30′ of space per court, with several courts per tournament
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of two players
  • Fun Fact: Roundnet began as a backyard game is now an internationally recognized sport. Today, Spikeball, a leading roundnet manufacturer, supports 4+ million global players, 40 full-time employees, and 500+ tournaments annually.  

Rowing

  • Space Type: River or Lake (natural or man-made) (or Indoor Rowing Center)
  • Space Requirements: Courses range from 1500 to 5000 meters. 
  • Number of People who Play: Single – 1 rower, Doubles/Pair- 2 rowers, Quads- 4 rowers, Fours- 4 rowers + 1 coxswain, Eights- 8 rowers + 1 coxswain
  • Fun Fact: An eight, which can carry more than three-quarters of a ton, may weigh as little as 200 pounds.

Rugby 

  • Space Type: Rugby Pitch 
  • Space Requirements: 100 m x 68-70 m 
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 15 players
  • Fun Fact: The first time a national anthem was sung before a sporting event was at a rugby match!

  • Space Type: Body of Water
  • Space Requirements: Protected/Unprotected Waters – Varies on race type.
  • Number of People who Play: 3 boats with 2 sailors per boat
  • Fun Fact: Sailing has been an Olympic sport since 1896!

Soccer 

  • Space Type: Indoor/Outdoor Soccer Field
  • Space Requirements:
    International/ Olympic: 70-80 yd x 110-120 yd
    NCAA: 70-75 yd x 115-120 yd
    High School: 55-80 yd x 100-120 yd
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 11 players.
  • Fun Fact: Soccer is the world’s most popular sport!

Softball 

  • Space Type: Softball Field 
  • Space Requirements
    Girls Fastpitch: Baselines of 60 ft. 35-43 ft from home plate to pitcher’s plate depending on age. Outfield fences 150 – 225 ft. 
    High School & College: Baselines of 60 ft. 43 ft from home plate to the pitcher’s plate. Minimum 190 ft to left and right outfield fences and 220 ft to center field fence.
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 9 players. 
  • Fun Fact: Softball was originally an indoor sport!

Squash 

  • Space Type: Squash Court
  • Space Requirements: The length of a squash court is 9.75 meters, width is 6.4 meters, and the diagonal is 11.665 meters. A typical court has four walls and an unfinished wood panel floor. 
  • Number of People who Play: 2 players or four for doubles. 
  • Fun Fact: The United States has the fastest growing squash participation worldwide!

Stunt

  • Space Type: Open-Multipurpose Space 
  • Space Requirements: 54ft x 42ft area with nine non-spring, carpet bonded, foam mat panels with a minimum 1-3/8 inch thickness. 
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 16 competing against each other. A maximum of 36 members on a roster. 
  • Fun Fact: USA Cheer created Stunt to meet the Title IX requirements of a sport expanding opportunities for high school cheerleaders to use their cheerleading background in a new format. 

Swimming 

  • Space Type: Pool 
  • Space Requirements: 
    Short course: 25 Meters in length 
    Long Course (Olympic): 50 Meters in length 
  • Number of People who Play: Individual or Team Relay
  • Fun Fact: Breaststroke is the oldest known swimming stroke!

Synchronized Swimming

  • Space Type: Pool
  • Space Requirements: 12 m x 25 m, pool must have lines
  • Number of People who Play: Team Event: 8 swimmers and 1 alternate, Duet Event: 2 swimmers and 1 alternate 
  • Fun Fact: Synchronized swimmers do not touch the bottom of the pool!

Table Tennis

  • Space Type: Indoor or Outdoor Multipurpose Area
  • Space Requirements: 9 ft long x 5 ft wide x 30 in high table 
  • Number of People who Play: Singles- two teams of 1, Doubles- two teams of 2 
  • Fun Fact: Table Tennis was originally an improvised game played on a table with books as the paddles and net!

Tennis 

  • Space Type: Tennis Court 
  • Space Requirements
    Singles Match: 78 feet long by 27 feet wide 
    Doubles Match: 78 feet long by 36 feet wide 
  • Number of People who Play: Singles (one vs one) or Doubles (two vs two)
  • Fun Fact: Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world! The first Wimbledon was played in 1877. 

Track & Field 

  • Space Type: Indoor or Outdoor Track with open space in the center
  • Space Requirements: 400 Meter Track with open space in the middle to participate in field events. 
  • Number of People who Play: Athletes are part of a team, but they either compete individually or as part of a relay. 
  • Fun Fact: Track and Field was born at the first Olympics in 776 B.C. in Greece!

Triathlon

  • Space Type: Course, Body of Water
  • Space Requirements: 1.5 km body of water, 40km biking course, 10km running course
  • Number of People who Play: Individual and Team
  • Fun Fact: Triathlon made its Olympic debut in 2000!

Ultimate Frisbee 

  • Space Type: Any open field (typically soccer and football fields)
  • Space Requirements: 70 yd x 40 yd field with 20 yd end zones at each end.
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 7 players.
  • Fun Fact: Ultimate was developed in 1968 by a group of students at Columbia High School in Maplewood, N.J!

Volleyball

  • Space Type: Volleyball Court 
  • Space Requirements: 50 feet x 80 feet of space with a court that  is 29 feet 6 inches x 59 feet.
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of six players. 
  • Fun Fact: Volleyball was created to be a balanced mix of basketball, baseball, handball and tennis!

  • Space Requirements: 30 Meter by 20 Meter Pool with a minimum depth of 2 Meters
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of seven players 
  • Fun Fact: Water Polo players swim up to 1.5 miles during the course of a game.

Water Sports

  • Space Requirements: varies
  • Number of People who Play: varies 
  • Fun Fact: The longest solo kayak journey was 2,010 miles!

Wrestling 

  • Space Type: Indoor multipurpose area
  • Space Requirements
    High School Competition: 38 feet x 38 feet with a minimum of a 5 foot protection area. 
    College Competition: 42 feet x 42 feet with a minimum of a 5 foot protection area. 
  • Number of People who Play: One vs. One
  • Fun Fact: Intercollegiate wrestling has over 100 years of competition. 

Yoga 

  • Space Type: Indoor or Outdoor Space 
  • Space Requirements: It is recommended that there is 21 square feet of space per practitioner. 
  • Number of People who Play: No minimum or maximum
  • Fun Fact: Yoga is over 5,000 years old.
