RECAP: 2026 NSAWA Meadowdale Opener/Pete Perry Invitational begins this year’s tournament lineup

Play ball!

From Feb. 21-22, the National Softball Association of Washington state (NSAWA) hosted its first tournament of the year, the Meadowdale Opener/Pete Perry Invitational, at the Meadowdale Athletic Complex in Lynnwood.

Thirty-two teams, 16 each, filled the 14U and 16/18U bracket divisions, which featured squads from across the state. Of the 14U division, Elevate Glasoe claimed the gold bracket, Fury White the silver bracket and KB Jack the bronze bracket. Of the 16/18U division, Elevate won the gold bracket, PNW Fury the silver bracket and Lady Mavs the bronze bracket.

NSAWA’s upcoming tournaments include trips north of Snohomish County, specifically Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley for the Skagit Classic from May 16-17 in Skagit County. But the overall goal of providing youth athletes with top-notch softball opportunities also reaches beyond the area. With tournaments from March through June, NSAWA will make appearances in Pierce, Chelan, Benton and Franklin counties in cities such as Tacoma, Wenatchee and the Tri-Cities (Kennewick, Pasco and Richland). The Icebreaker tournament from April 11-12 at various locations in the Tri-Cities, for example, already has more than 75 teams registered across three divisions: 18 teams in 10U, 36 in 12U and 28 in 14U.

“This game has given so much not just to the community but personally to me and my family—creating lasting memories, friendships and a deep love for the sport,” said Casey Saxon, first-year NSAWA tournament director. “I’m committed to building a program that reflects that same passion—one that’s competitive, well-organized and memorable for everyone involved. My goal is to create events that teams look forward to every season while continuing to grow participation and raise the standard of play. The future of this program is bright, and I’m ready to get to work.”
