The New Sports Boom Town: Salt Lake City

Salt Lake is quickly becoming the place where many professional expansions are at the forefront of conversations. Jeff Robbins, President and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission said, “Utah has developed an “unparalleled” public-private partnership in sports arenas”, this magnifies Salt Lake as a potential home for many future sporting events. Organizations such as the Smith Entertainment Group, and Big League Utah have been key players in these discussions.

In recent months, Salt Lake has welcomed conversations with Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, and the International Olympic Committee. There’s no question that Salt Lake wants major sporting events in Utah. Since 2018 the Delta Center has hosted five NHL Games as part of the Los Angeles Kings’ “Frozen Fury”, and in 2023, Salt Lake hosted the NBA All-Star game, which resulted in a $300 million economic impact. Hosting events like this shows that Salt Lake is ready and capable of building and sustaining a sporting hub.

As for this year, Salt Lake welcomes back the National Women’s Soccer League – The Royals, the NCAA Basketball 1st and 2nd rounds for March Madness, and League One Volleyball will also kick off its season towards the end of the 2024 year. Salt Lake is growing, Salt Lake is sustaining, and Salt Lake is bombing!
