The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs is proud to announce its newest team in Pecos, Texas

(Pecos, TX) September 13, 2023 – The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs is proud to announce its newest team in Pecos, Texas.

The team will be named the Pecos Bills. Nestled in between Alpine and Roswell, Pecos Texas is the perfect city to join the Pecos League by name and location. The Bills will begin to play at Cyclone Ballparks in the Championship Field beginning in May of 2024.

Pecos Bill is being brought to life in the Pecos League.  Pecos Bill was a fictional cowboy and folk hero in stories set during American westward expansion into the Southwest of Texas, New Mexico, Southern California, and Arizona. These narratives were invented as short stories in a book by Tex O’Reilly in the early 20th century and are an example of American folklore. Pecos Bill was a late addition to the “big man” idea of characters, such as Paul Bunyan or John Henry.

The Pecos League (pronounced Peh-COS) is no stranger to Pecos, Texas .  On 7/7/2022 the Alpine Cowboys defeated the Roswell Invaders 9-8 at Cyclone Ballpark in a neutral site game between the two teams.  In 2013 the Pecos League attempted to have a team in Pecos, Texas named the Bills that would have played at Martinez Park. This never materialized as improvements to the lights were needed to Martinez Park that didn’t happen.
