Why Sports Are Better at The Beach

What do the World’s Strongest Man, the PGA TOUR, and the American Cornhole League have in common? They all have recently hosted major events in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

It’s no surprise why – The Beach has top-of-the-line, versatile venues suitable for any level of competition, and the support you get from the Visit Myrtle Beach planning team, venue operators and city officials is second to none.

“Teamwork is everything in sports, and we bring that same mindset to every event we host,” says Jonathan Paris, executive director of sports tourism at Visit Myrtle Beach. “We’re continually welcoming bigger, more prestigious competitions because we’re all committed to delivering a great experience.”

Stretching across 60 miles of coastline and 14 communities, Myrtle Beach venues have the range and infrastructure to accommodate any sporting event – indoors or out. Some of the standout venues include:

  • John T. Rhodes Myrtle Beach Sports Center, with 100,000 square feet of hardwood indoor space, plus a café and retail area.
  • Myrtle Beach Convention Center, which features over 300,000 square feet of event space and a prime location two blocks from the ocean.
  • Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium and Ashley Booth Field, which feature an NCAA-certified lighted track, a FieldTurf field and 5,000 seats.
  • The Styers Athletic Complex, with its 11 fields, complimentary livestreams and new FieldTurf installed across the entire facility.
  • Coastal Carolina University, which has recently hosted two NCAA events: the Myrtle Beach Bowl and the Myrtle Beach Invitational.
