Why The Beach Is the Golf Capital of the World

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, didn’t earn the moniker Golf Capital of the World by accident. With more than 90 championship courses designed by some of the biggest names in the sport, The Beach offers an unmatched variety of layouts – from iconic oceanfront holes to inland fairways framed by scenic South Carolina landscapes. Each course pairs natural beauty with professional-quality conditions, making the destination a dream for players and planners alike.

For golf tournaments and events, few places can match the experience at The Beach. For the second consecutive year, the PGA Tour’s ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club has proven Myrtle Beach’s bona fides as a premier professional golf destination. However, The Beach isn’t just for the pros. The annual Play Golf Myrtle Beach World Amateur Championship is the world’s largest and most inclusive golf tournament, with more than 3,000 players competing from over 60 flights of golfers to crown the world amateur champion, and Coastal Carolina University will continue its run of hosting major NCAA events with the NCAA Division I Golf Regional in 2027 at the Tournament Players Club of Myrtle Beach.

As the Golf Capital of the World, Myrtle Beach’s hospitality extends far beyond its courses. Athletes, families and fans in town for other sporting events can fill their downtime with a round or two, taking advantage of the same championship-level greens that draw golfers from all around. It’s the perfect add-on experience that makes any sports trip here even more memorable.
