We are located in the heart of downtown McKinney. Historical background: The Heard-Craig Art Center & Museum was originally a home for the Stephen Heard family but today, it is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Many friends, family, and community came here to do business and were welcomed warmly and with open arms, as are welcomed today. Kathryn Heard’s legacy includes the formation of the Art Club of McKinney, includes being a president of the Owl Club, and she was the first woman appointed to the Board of Austin College, a leadership role of which she was most proud. The Heard-Craig Art Center & Museum was established in 1970 as a gift to the many organizations and clubs that needed a place to hold their educational meetings. Today, we are stewards of her vision; our annual philanthropy (the gift of free meeting space) is generously assisted by the community who visit for tours and provide volunteer service to maintain the historic property. We extend an invitation to everyone to stop by and visit the museum and visit our ART O MAT, the only one in this region of Texas. The Art-O-Mat is a vintage cigarette machine that has been repurposed to dispense collectible, original art from over 400 artists around the world. The machine is very popular among small children who like to pull the handles and open the art boxes. The Art O Mat is located in the Heard-Craig Carriage House which is a few steps from the ”Hunt Lot 1” Trolley stop in downtown McKinney. Heard-Craig Center for the Arts

The Heard-Craig Art Center & Museum is a Smithsonian Affiliated Museum in downtown McKinney. The Heard Museum was a home first, built in the year 1900. This historic space was lived in and welcomed many friends, family, and community during their lives and ownership. Kathryn brought the art club to Texas and she was the first woman appointed to the board of Austin College. She was leading the way for individuals to express their talents, passion, and accomplish goals beyond! The Heard-Craig Art Center & Museum (Women’s Club Trust) was established in 1970 when Kathryn passed. She left her art and heart to the legacy that we stand in today! With 54 years of service, we hold special memories of many in the community and those who traveled in to have the opportunity to create their story here with us in the beauty that she created and left.

We have the Art-O-Mat which is a vintage machine repurposed for collectible art hence the Art-O-Mat! People travel all over the world and to McKinney to add to their art collections! Our non-profit organization services 26 clubs and over 1200 in the community to learn and gather. The Heard Craig Art Center & Museum has private parking in downtown McKinney with a private garden, gazebo, and Carriage House. The private garden & Carriage House venue space is available to rent and our main house Museum offers group tours, luncheons, bridal tea, baby showers, and more!
