St. John’s Church, the site of Patrick Henry’s impassioned oratory “give me liberty or give me death” is one of the oldest wooden churches (1741) in Virginia and remains an active congregation. See reenactments of the 1775 debate among 9 of the Founding Fathers on summer Sundays between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Check the website for tickets, dates, and times. We’re a community of runners, hikers, bikers and ballplayers. We’re an outdoor playground, designed by Mother Nature, with class III and IV rapids running right through our downtown. A 52-mile bike trail runs along the James. The Richmond Marathon and Ukrop’s 10k are huge celebrations, and the whole region comes out to cheer on our local teams. RVA Hidden History Storytellers is a tour company focused on sharing the offbeat and overshadowed aspects of RVA’s history. The company is the sister of Haunts of Richmond Ghost Tours, a company founded on the premise of sharing ghost stories with a strong passion for the history that accompanies the spirited tales. As Haunts of Richmond grew and more stories were collected, ghost and history alike, a load of fascinating, little-known information was gathered that never quite fit with the ghost tour company. Nevertheless, there was a strong desire to bring these tales forward in a way that would do justice to the history of Richmond, and those who have lived through it. RVA Hidden History Storytellers was founded to share these stories with the RVA community, and those we welcome to our beautiful and historic city. Private tours and city guide services are available year-round.

Richmond Historic Haunts

We pair adult artists with disabilities with professional artist-mentors, who accompany them in creating, exhibiting and selling unique bodies of work. In addition to providing transformative one-on-one mentorship, we create ambitious, risky, creative projects with a big community of accomplices in Richmond, including daring experiments in outdoor weaving, a giant mobile shadow puppet theater, and launching Richmond’s Annual Validation Day Parade.
