Welcome to the Nefarious Haunt Experience! You will investigate a very mis-fortunate mid-century slaughter of an iron foundry owner and his family. Time to plan your weekend fun. Put on your thinking cap, grab a couple brave souls to help and try to escape our house with restless spirits.

Nefarious Haunt Experience

We’re a community of runners, hikers, bikers and ballplayers. We’re an outdoor playground, designed by Mother Nature, with class III and IV rapids running right through our downtown. A 52-mile bike trail runs along the James. The Richmond Marathon and Ukrop’s 10k are huge celebrations, and the whole region comes out to cheer on our local teams. In fact, we’re so sports-minded that the Washington Redskins have their training camp right in the center of the city. What is today known as the Old Stone Jail was built around 1835, likely using stone from the quarry at Aquia, Virginia (although local lore has it that the stone came from the South Anna River). By 1841 both jails were being used by the county: The older jail as a debtor's prison, and the new stone jail for holding criminals and runaway slaves. The county's original jail was out of service by 1844, leaving the stone jail to handle all imprisonment

Visit the historic 18th century Hanover Courthouse where Patrick Henry argued the famous Parson's Cause case in 1763. In continuous use since its construction in the early 1740's the courthouse has survived damage from both the American Revolution and the Civil War. Used for trials until the 1970's today it is the site of ceremonial county occasions, meetings and weddings. Working with the county and the Hanover Tavern the Hanover County Historical Society provides tours by appointment.

Hanover's newest park opened in May 2020. The nature trail is 2/3 of mile with benches, and two observation platforms to view the lake.

Hanover Tavern

Since the 18th century, Hanover Tavern has served as a public gathering place offering food and hospitality for travelers. On the National Register of Historic Places, the Tavern was the home to Patrick Henry and was frequently visited by Revolutionary armies and Civil War troops. It is a stop on the Civil War Trails and the Road to Revolution (Patrick Henry) trail. Enjoy the beautiful gardens, Coach House, smokehouse, and self-guided audio tour. The Tavern offers a full service restaurant and pub and is also the Hanover home for Virginia Repertory Theatre. Hanover Tavern is a 200+ year-old building providing a unique setting for drama productions and musical concerts. There is a 155 seat theater and a separate multi-purpose Coach House building as well as smaller, more intimate rooms. Full service restaurant and pub.

This park has three lighted and four non-lighted multipurpose fields, picnic shelter, 1/2 mile walking trail, playground and fishing pond with floating dock. This park hosts Hanover's annual Taylor's Pirate FishingFUN event (first Saturday in June).

Taylor Park is a perfect spot for passive activities like kite flying, dog walking and enjoying a picnic. The Cannery is also located within the park complex. This park has one non-lighted multipurpose field, dog park, picnic shelter, playground, walking trails and the Taylor Complex with classrooms.
