We’re a community of runners, hikers, bikers and ballplayers. We’re an outdoor playground, designed by Mother Nature, with class III and IV rapids running right through our downtown. A 52-mile bike trail runs along the James. The Richmond Marathon and Ukrop’s 10k are huge celebrations, and the whole region comes out to cheer on our local teams. Side Street Gallery is a fine art gallery with over 24 fine artists whose work includes original paintings, prints, pottery, photography, jewelry, woodwork, and stained glass. They also do custom work on coasters, mugs, t-shirts, ornaments and more. They are open Tuesday through Friday from 11 AM to 5 PM and Saturdays 11 AM to 3 PM. Virginia State University offers 52 baccalaureate and master’s degree programs and a Certificate of Advanced Study within five schools: The School of Agriculture; The School of Business; The School of Engineering, Science and Technology; The School of Liberal Arts and Education; and The School of Graduate Studies, Research and Outreach. In 2008, Virginia State University began its first Ph.D. program, in Health Psychology, the only program of its type in Virginia. VSU offers a bachelor of individualized studies degree program, a non-traditional baccalaureate program primarily for working adults. Students can pursue the degree on a full-time or part-time basis.
