This one acre park is located at the northern end of North Center Street. The park connects to Vaughan Road by a 1/3 mile path along the rail tracks. The site remains largely open space with one picnic table and three benches that allow for watching trains pass by

Railside Park and Trail

We’re a community of runners, hikers, bikers and ballplayers. We’re an outdoor playground, designed by Mother Nature, with class III and IV rapids running right through our downtown. A 52-mile bike trail runs along the James. The Richmond Marathon and Ukrop’s 10k are huge celebrations, and the whole region comes out to cheer on our local teams. In fact, we’re so sports-minded that the Washington Redskins have their training camp right in the center of the city. The new and improved Keeble Observatory was constructed in summer 2017 and connected to the northeast corner of the Copley Science Center. It houses a state of the art Ritchey-Chretien telescope with a 40 cm primary mirror. Instrumentation includes CCD cameras for photography and photometry.

In recognition of a significant void in the history of African Americans in Hanover County, Carolyn Hemphill along with a group of classmates from then, John M. Gandy High School (the public high school for African Americans during segregation years) decided to dig deeper into the history of African Americans in Hanover County. The Society seeks to uncover and preserve the history of African Americans in Hanover County and to help enrich and promote stronger family and community unity through our historical findings. Our goal is to educate the public by increasing their awareness and appreciation of Hanover’s legacy.

In the Visitor Center at Ashland's circa-1923 train station, a museum houses RF&P Railroad memorabilia, including conductors' uniforms, photographs and news articles. Classic Hanover County iconic spot.
