We’re a community of runners, hikers, bikers and ballplayers. We’re an outdoor playground, designed by Mother Nature, with class III and IV rapids running right through our downtown. A 52-mile bike trail runs along the James. The Richmond Marathon and Ukrop’s 10k are huge celebrations, and the whole region comes out to cheer on our local teams. In fact, we’re so sports-minded that the Washington Redskins have their training camp right in the center of the city. Magdalenas Botanica

Located at 28th and E. Franklin Streets, Libby Hill Park is one of the three original parks in Richmond's park system. It was originally called Marshall Square, and the view from Libby Hill Park is said to so closely resemble the view of Richmond on the Thames in England that it gave the city its name. In addition to its magnificent view, the park has an ornamental fountain, a small park house, and a monument erected in 1894 for Confederate soldiers and sailors. The park is open from sunrise to sunset.

The result of a public/private partnership, landscapes in Great Shiplock Park and the Low Line have been transformed into inviting and exciting public green space. Concerned citizens lead the efforts through a group known as Capital Trees. Most recent efforts have created a linear park along a critically important but neglected stretch of the Kanawha Canal and Virginia Capital Trail. Now dubbed the “Low Line”, with a nod to New York City’s High Line, the site connects a recently enhanced Great Shiplock Park (GSP) with Richmond’s much-loved Canal Walk. The great lock, built between 1850-1854, connected the James River with the Richmond Dock, completing the James River and Kanawha Canal system that bypassed seven miles of falls and continued 197 miles through Virginia’s western mountain ranges. This park is the lowest of historic Kanawha Canal locks with an interpretive display.It also offers great fishing off Chapel Island.

RVA Hidden History Storytellers is a tour company focused on sharing the offbeat and overshadowed aspects of RVA’s history. The company is the sister of Haunts of Richmond Ghost Tours, a company founded on the premise of sharing ghost stories with a strong passion for the history that accompanies the spirited tales. As Haunts of Richmond grew and more stories were collected, ghost and history alike, a load of fascinating, little-known information was gathered that never quite fit with the ghost tour company. Nevertheless, there was a strong desire to bring these tales forward in a way that would do justice to the history of Richmond, and those who have lived through it. RVA Hidden History Storytellers was founded to share these stories with the RVA community, and those we welcome to our beautiful and historic city. Private tours and city guide services are available year-round.
