A 20-minute drive from Elk Grove, the Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge encompasses 18,000 acres of protected land in the southern part of the county. It is one of the few urban refuges in Sacramento County and is home to many migratory bird species.

The Blue Heron Trails are paved, easy walking loops within the restored wetlands and upland habitat of the refuge. Rescate Coffee is Elk Grove's only on-site coffee roaster, with coffee roasted three times a week for freshness. Their shop is beautiful with a farmhouse decor vibe and they often decorate for the seasons and holidays. Rescate is the Spanish word for rescue. The name has a double meaning for the owners: First, by coming to the rescue of their patrons with delicious coffee, and second, for their commitment to rescue animals. Rescate Coffee has an extensive menu of coffee, teas, and food items. One of the most unique things about Rescate is how they inject Mexican culture into their menu. Their signature coffee is El Toro which is sweetened espresso breve with a dash of cinnamon. Other specialty drinks include Horchata latte (house-made horchata with real Mexican vanilla and cinnamon), Mayan Mocha which has habanero, and Honey Bear latte with local Spease's Bees honey. In addition, Rescate has a seasonal menu with items such as Orange or Cherry Creme Frappe in the summer and Country Pumpkin Latte in the fall. Rescate is passionate about rescue animals and donates a portion of the proceeds from select retail products to pet rescue organizations. There's an entire wall dedicated to pictures of rescue pets. For a donation to local pet rescue organizations, the name of your pet will be hand-stamped on the Rescatado wall. Rescate also helps out the two-legged population by offering a space for support groups to meet, participating in food drives for the food bank, collecting water to donate to fire victims, and currently, they are collecting school supplies for children in need.

Elk Grove Space 4 Art, formerly Space 4 Art Jam, is the only fully equipped art school in Elk Grove that offers a wide variety of art programs for kids, teens and adults. Our art classes include Drawing, Painting, Crafting, Ceramics, and Art Camps. In addition, we host Birthday Parties, Corporate Events, Fundraising Events, and Adults Painting Workshops. Our students participate in various art competitions. In both 2017 and 2018, our students won the Golden Bear Awards (Best of Show) at the California State Fair Student Showcase.

Here, you’ll find a full basketball court, a variety of playgrounds including a fabulous water park for summer along with a dog park, restrooms, and plenty of shade and grassy areas. This is a great place to pitch a tent and hang out for the day with your kids or friends. Outdoor concerts are often held here during summer.

Morse Park

At Bartholomew Park (not to be confused with the sports park with the same name), you will find a multipurpose field, and shaded picnic areas. There are easy walking paths near a small picturesque lake that are often used by residents of the Laguna West neighborhood.

One of the larger parks in Elk Grove, Bartholomew Sports Park is a crown jewel in the Elk Grove park system, boasting an elaborate sports complex with lighted soccer fields, football fields, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, bleachers, restrooms, concession stands, and more. The park also has several playgrounds, grassy areas, and places to walk or run. Parking is ample and free.
