Sharpsburg sits in Coweta County on the southwest edge of metro Atlanta, tucked between Newnan and Peachtree City about 35 miles from downtown and roughly 30 minutes from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The area strikes an easy balance for visitors: quiet, rural stretches of pasture and pine give way within minutes to the shopping corridors, restaurants, and entertainment of its larger neighbors, all connected by I-85 and a handful of well-traveled state highways. It's the kind of place where a short drive in any direction turns up something worth stopping for.

Just north, Newnan carries the nickname "The City of Homes," earned through six National Register Historic Districts packed with antebellum and Victorian architecture that largely escaped the destruction of the Civil War. Its courthouse square anchors a walkable downtown of local shops, cafes, and restaurants, with the 1904 Coweta County Courthouse as the centerpiece. Newnan is also the hometown of country singer Alan Jackson, whose legacy is honored with a mural downtown, and the surrounding county's historic sites and museums make for an easy afternoon of exploring on foot.

To the east, Peachtree City is famous as the "Golf Cart Capital of the World," with more than 100 miles of paved paths threading through wooded greenbelts and around scenic lakes, connecting neighborhoods to shopping centers and restaurants without ever needing a car. A little further south, the small town of Senoia has become a destination in its own right thanks to its brick-lined Main Street, which served as the fictional town of Woodbury in "The Walking Dead" and has since drawn fans and film tourists to its boutiques, restaurants, and a working brewery, all within a few blocks.

For visitors in town for a tournament weekend, the region offers an unusually deep bench of family-friendly options: bowling and mini golf, escape rooms and axe throwing, children's museums and history museums, u-pick farms, and a family entertainment center right in Sharpsburg itself. Those looking to extend the trip are within an hour of Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags White Water, Zoo Atlanta, and the Georgia Aquarium, making it easy to pair tournament days with a bigger outing into the city.

Set just south of Atlanta in Fayette County, Peachtree City blends small-town charm with a design built entirely around golf carts and lakes. The city is home to the Commemorative Air Force Airbase Georgia, where visitors can see restored World War II-era aircraft like the P-51 Mustang and FG-1D Corsair up close, plus book a ride in a working warbird. Downtown along The Avenue Peachtree City offers its own draw, with shopping and dining, weekend visits to the Peachtree City Farmers Market, and easy golf cart access to the village centers that ring the town.

Outdoor recreation runs deep here. More than 100 miles of paved multi-use paths connect the city's three lakes — Peachtree, Kedron, and McIntosh — letting visitors reach the water by golf cart, bike, or on foot. Closer to the shoreline, Flat Creek Nature Area's boardwalk trail winds through quiet woods and wetlands for a shorter, still scenic walk, and Lake Kedron nearby draws anglers after largemouth bass and catfish, along with paddlers and birders. Golfers can play a round at Flat Creek Country Club, a Joe Lee-designed 27-hole layout long regarded as some of the best golf in the Atlanta area.

For something different, Line Creek Brewing Co. has been pouring fresh, flavorful craft beers in its cozy Huddleston Road taproom since 2018, when it opened as Fayette County's first brewery. The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater, known locally as "The Fred," rounds out the cultural scene with a summer concert series that's drawn acts like Gladys Knight and Foreigner to its pine-shaded, 2,500-seat stage for more than 30 years, while nearby Senoia offers walking tours of the film locations used in The Walking Dead and other productions shot around the area.

With its mix of golf cart charm, lakeside recreation, and small-screen fame, Peachtree City offers an easy home base just south of Atlanta.
