Kreher Preserve & Nature Center

The Kreher Preserve & Nature Center, managed by Auburn University’s School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, offers 120 acres of natural habitats with five miles of trails for hiking and birdwatching. It features accessible facilities including an amphitheater, educational pavilion, playground, and restrooms. As part of the Alabama Birding Trails, visitors can see nearly 80 bird species throughout the year, including migratory and raptor birds. The center also includes a dedicated Butterfly Garden that attracts a variety of species like Monarchs and Eastern Tiger Swallowtails, serving as an important stop during migration. Maintained by local volunteers, the garden is a peaceful spot to observe butterflies, caterpillars, and hummingbirds. The preserve offers hands-on environmental education programs and workshops for all ages. Open daily from sunrise to sunset, it’s a welcoming place for families and nature lovers to explore and learn.
