Learn how Scranton became named "The Electric City" at the Electric City Trolley Station & Museum. Located on the Steamtown National Historic Site grounds in a restored late 19th-century mill building, it commemorates the first successfully operational electric-powered streetcar system in the U.S. Enjoy the interactive exhibits and displays, including vintage trolleys, then climb aboard an authentic 1926 or 1932 antique trolley for a 5 ½ mile trip over Roaring Brook through the mile-long tunnel and along the original “Laurel Line.”
The Electric City Trolley Museum collection provides a highly representative picture of the electric railway history of eastern Pennsylvania, from the Philadelphia region to Northeast Pennsylvania. The museum displays a variety of vintage trolleys, as well as a 50-seat theatre, interactive kid-friendly exhibits, trolley displays, mine railway and signal equipment items, vintage street lights, and much more.

Lackawanna County’s newest attraction is the wonderful Electric City Aquarium & Reptile Den. Dedicated to education and conservation, their 20,000-square-foot facility has been carefully planned to accommodate each member of their animal, reptile, and fish family. If you think high definition is awesome, you’ll be astounded as you see the vibrant colors of the various species of fish swimming in crystal blue waters. Wind your way through the Frog Swamp and the Snake Den. Visit the Lizard Lair before braving Gator Alley. Leave the reptiles behind and continue your adventure in the Shark Reef. Get your hands wet in the touch tanks and pet some stingrays in Ray Bay. It really is, in fact, better, down where it’s wetter, under the sea. Completely Immerse yourself in Catfish Cove, where you will find yourself surrounded by fish on all sides. There are so many incredible creatures and interactive displays, visitors will have an educational experience they’ll never forget.
Educational Shows & Animal Feedings
Let the keepers teach you about some of Electric City Aquarium & Reptile Den's resident animals with a 25-minute show in the education room. During the shows, you'll have the chance to get up close and personal with snakes, alligators, turtles, and more! On the weekends, get a closer look at how the keepers feed their resident animals. The Marketplace at Steamtown is a dynamic multi-use facility in Downtown Scranton. The center hosts a variety of services, from medical to educational, alongside a mix of traditional and unique retail. The Scranton Public Market, located on the second floor in the former food court, is host to local makers and restaurants Friday through Sunday.
