Parley's Historic Nature Park is an easy, family-friendly walk that is started as an off-leash dog park, but is also a beautiful walk with or without canine friends.

Unlike other dog parks that are often small fields or open areas fenced off and dedicated to letting dogs run around, Parley's Historic Nature Park (also referred to as Tanner Dog Park) is an 87-acre park that is also a wildlife refuge area containing numerous historic sites and plaques. It has multiple trails, and it joins with Parley's Trail for a much longer walking or hiking experience. It follows Parley's Creek and is full of trees and brush, and has beautiful views of the nearby mountains and the bottom of Parley's Canyon.

**Local's recommendation:** This is a popular area any time of year-bring your dog if you can, but if you can't or don't own a dog, you will meet many friendly pups on this walk.

The Ski Utah Interconnect Adventure Tour gives an advanced to expert skier the opportunity to experience the magnificent beauty and incredible backcountry terrain of the Wasatch Mountain Range. Lone Pine Gear Exchange

A steep, less-trafficked hike that makes for a great workout with an expansive view as a payoff at the end.

The Parley's Canyon Overlook Trailhead is relatively new, and many of the branching trails that start here are also new. The overlook is a minor peak that takes in views of the Salt Lake Valley to the west and Parley's Canyon to the east and south, and it can be reached by multiple routes. There are two main ridgeline routes and a third that follows a ravine between the other two, and many smaller trails, tracks, and deer paths that head up and around the mountain. The best track is to follow straight up one of the ridges. Short and steep, this is a good way to get the heart pumping. With a little more distance, can be combined with the Jack's Peak Trail for a 5 mile loop.

**Local's Recommendation:**This trail is quite steep and there is little shade cover, so this is best in spring or fall. Can be hiked in the winter with proper weather gear.

**Safety information:** As with any trail in the foothills, watch for rattlesnakes, especially in summer months. Wear appropriate footwear when hiking, be aware of your surroundings, and always look carefully before placing hands or feet. Be sure to stay hydrated.

**Roadbook**

Starting at the trailhead, follow the trail northeast from the parking area immediately follow the bend that turns right and up a small hill. At the top of the hill, turn left heading up the ridgeline. Follow the ridgeline to the peak overlooking the valley and the canyon.

**Public transport:** Bus routes do not travel up to this trail head - best access is by car.

**Directions:** If you follow online map directions they may not have the update to the new Scenic Drive portion. Get to 2962 Benchmark Drive, follow past 2962 and through the gates up the hill and to the end of Scenic Drive.

**Parking:** There is limited, free on-the-street parking at the trailhead.

National Charter Bus - Salt Lake City

A short loop trail hike that, while not terribly difficult, has trail sections that will get your heart pumping and your legs burning.

A pretty hike with some spectacular views, this trail will take you to a pointy peak that is named after Jack Edwards, a young toddler who passed away from leukemia in 1995. His parents created a memorial at the top with mailboxes containing notebooks for visitors to write in, and the peak is also known as Jack's Mountain or Jack's Mailbox Peak. The hike is short and pretty consistently steep in places, with very little to no shade. The views are worth every step.

**Local's recommendation:** Probably best hiked in spring or fall. Summer is good, but recommended to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the hottest temperatures of the day, as there is very little shade.

**Best time of year:** Spring and Fall, if going in Summer start early to avoid the heat since there is no shade

**Safety information:** As with any trail in the foothills, watch for rattlesnakes, especially in summer months. Wear closed-toed shoes when hiking, be aware of your surroundings, and always look carefully before placing hands or feet. Be sure to bring plenty of water. This is a steep trail, so a walking pole can be helpful.

**Roadbook**

From the trailhead, get on to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail and head northwest. When the trail rounds the hill and heads more north, a smaller off shoot will appear on the right and head upwards toward the "H" rock on the mountain. From there, follow the trail to the top.
