The Classic Center is northeast Georgia's premier award-winning convention center and performing arts theatre. Located in the heart of downtown Athens, Georgia, The Classic Center provides unique meeting space, outstanding special event services, and a wide range of entertainment options, making this unconventional convention center the choice for conferences, meetings, and special events!

The Classic Center is under the auspices of The Classic Center Authority (CCA), a political subdivision of the state government, created on March 10, 1988, as enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Georgia. The Athens-Clarke County Commission appoints the 5-member CCA board of directors.

The Classic Center has been under the leadership of Executive Director Paul Cramer since it opened in 1995. Considered the crown jewel of downtown Athens, The Classic Center's motto is "Be Impressed," and guests most certainly are. Nearly 365,000 people attend more than 650 convention center and theatre events yearly.

The Classic Center underwent a visual identity redesign in 2023, unveiling a new logo inspired by the stainless-steel structure, "The Nest" by artist Maureen Kelly, hanging in the Atrium.

Filled on Saturdays to its 92,746 capacity, Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium has long been one of the country’s most beautiful and electrifying arenas for college football. Georgia’s average home attendance has ranked among the nation’s top 10 for more than two decades. Surrounded by its famous hedges, Georgia’s home field is one of the legendary facilities in college football. In 2018, there was a major enhancement to the West End Zone with the addition of the team locker room, space to host prospective student-athletes, a larger video board, and a plaza for the fans.

With a $25 million expansion completed in 2003 and another $8 million in 2004, Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium added a second upper deck on the north side and 27 new north side SkySuites bringing the new stadium capacity to 92,746, the fifth largest on-campus stadium in the country. Named for the late Dr. S. V. Sanford, former president of the University and Chancellor of the University system, Georgia's Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2004. An overflow crowd of 30,000 saw the stadium's first game on October 12, 1929, when Yale University made its only trip South. Georgia won the now famous game when a young sophomore end from Macon, Vernon "Catfish" Smith, scored all 15 of the Bulldogs' points. Final score, Georgia 15, Yale 0.

Through the years, the stadium has experienced various expansion projects. In 1940, lights were added to the field level paving the way to the first Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium night game, a 7-7 tie between Georgia and Kentucky on October 26, 1940.

Eventually, the East end of the stadium was enclosed, more lights added, and the capacity increased to 82,122. The 1991 project cost the University Athletic Association $3.7 million and enclosed the West end. The price tag was rather hefty, considering that the original price to build the stadium was a mere $360,000.

Legendary Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium added yet another chapter to its history by hosting the medal round of the 1996 Olympic men's and women's soccer competition watched via television by over 3 billion people around the world.

Holland Youth Sports Complex

Bogart Sports Complex is a 33-acre park located behind the Bogart Library at 200 South Burson/Thompson Street. The park features six lighted baseball and multipurpose fields ( 2 - 200 foot baseball fields with grass infields; 1 - 300 foot baseball field with grass infield; 2 - 200 foot multipurpose fields with skinned infield; 1 - 300 foot multipurpose field with skinned infield), a picnic pavilion, playground, and a half-mile paved walking trail.

Bogart Sports Complex

Named in honor of community activist Virginia Callaway-Cofer Walker, Walker Park features a variety of amenities for organized sports, self-directed play, and fun. The park is a popular site for football, rugby, softball, and ultimate Frisbee games and tournaments for teams from across Northeast Georgia. The open park, with plenty of green space, is just minutes from downtown, and is accessible from the Athens Perimeter or from Trail Creek Street. This 113-acre park features:

Walker Park

Athens' only in-town public golf course. Designed by world-renowned architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the course underwent a major renovation in 2006 by Love Golf Design, headed by PGA TOUR professional Davis Love III. Based on player reviews submitted to Golf Advisor, the UGA Golf Course was named among the best courses of 2018 to play in the United States.

Satterfield Park

The 34,000 square foot community center is open with meeting space for community use, an indoor walking track and fitness area, and a gymnasium. It houses the administrative offices for the department. In addition, the 197 acre park offers outdoor walking trails, tennis courts, soccer fields, baseball fields, and a picnic shelter. A bark park is located in the back of the park; however, access to the bark park closes daily at sunset. 

Oconee Veterans Park

Heritage Park is 364 acres of natural resources with woods and creeks, bordered by the Apalachee River. The large open-air arena at Heritage Park was created with agricultural and special events in mind. The feeder barn has thirty-one stalls and a small show arena. There are separate wash racks for animal shows, rodeos, and other large events. The park is conveniently located in Farmington on Highway 441, seven miles south of downtown Watkinsville and ten miles north of downtown Madison.

Lay Park Community Center has been serving Athens' community since 1975. Nestled in the center of Athens, this is the closest park to Downtown Athens.

Named for former City of Athens Mayor Julius Bishop, this park offers a variety of activities and amenities. This 33-acre park features athletic fields, basketball courts, playground, swimming pool, tennis courts, walking trail, picnic area, and is the home of the area's premier gymnastics program, Athens Clarke Gymnastics Academy.  

Tennis courts and outdoor basketball courts are first-come, first-served, unless reserved for organized activities and sports.
