<h4><strong>Tell us a little&nbsp;about yourself&nbsp;and take us inside the shop.</strong></h4>

<p><strong>Morgana:</strong> I consider myself a maker. I love learning new crafts, I&rsquo;ve got to give everything a try.&nbsp;I&rsquo;ve always wanted to have some kind of <strong><a data-sv-linklookup-id="https://www.twistedthingsypsi.com/join-the-artist-collective.html" data-sv-linklookup-type="plugins_nav_external_link" data-sv-targetauto="true" href="https://www.twistedthingsypsi.com/join-the-artist-collective.html" target="_blank">artist collective</a></strong>, where everybody gets a chance to show off what they can make, where we can talk together as a community, and learn different skills from each other. We&rsquo;ve got close to 160 artists in the collective right now.&nbsp;It&rsquo;s almost like having a maker&#39;s space in the shop.</p>

<p>I want a place where everybody can give it a shot. If there&rsquo;s space, then we have more people come in. We do a lot of one-on-one coaching and artist development. <strong>The whole point, at the end of the day, is for artists to be able to create business that works for them that they love. </strong></p>

<h4><strong>From bone cleaning to specialty workshops, can you take us behind the scenes and share what to expect? </strong></h4>

<p><strong>Morgana:</strong> Depends on the class. We could have a fun magical candle-dressing workshop to something metaphysical, to terrarium building, or a&nbsp;class like &quot;rat oxidation.&quot;&nbsp;You&rsquo;re learning the skill, a little bit of chemistry, a little bit of art.</p>

<p>Generally, we&rsquo;re supplying all of the materials. I do a lecture class about the chemicals and getting into this legally. We try to keep classes fairly small here. I like to keep it kind of small so everyone can get to know each other.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br />
&nbsp;</p>

<h4><strong>Talk to us about the vision of your shop,&nbsp;and how it&rsquo;s evolved over time.</strong></h4>

<p><strong>Morgana:</strong> It all depends on the art that we have that comes in. Things move and flex all the time. Since we have a focus on creepy stuff, we do have a ghosty section, but we also have &lsquo;plant parent&rsquo; areas, and &lsquo;gay every day&rsquo; section.&nbsp;It&rsquo;s ever-changing, and when the shop has extra money then we do a remodel, or have someone come and do a professional business class.</p>

<h4><strong>Is there anything else you want to share with listeners?</strong></h4>

<p><strong>Morgana: </strong>I&rsquo;d really like more people to shop small and appreciate art on a small scale. Let us know what you&rsquo;re looking for, because somebody we know might actually do that. &nbsp;</p>

<p>And there&rsquo;s so much downtown.&nbsp;If you&rsquo;re driving from a way&#39;s away, you can spend all day here. There&#39;s so much art, there&rsquo;s places to go and meet other artists in town as well. &nbsp;</p>

<p>I want to draw more attention to the small artists downtown and what it is we actually do here. We do so much more than<em> spooky</em>. <strong>We&rsquo;re here for the artist community, to help you get going.</strong></p>

<p>After growing up in Ann Arbor,&nbsp;I moved away but I always knew I would be back. And sure enough, after 30+ years,&nbsp;I am now the next generation to take over the <a data-sv-linklookup-id="715" data-sv-linklookup-type="plugins_listings_listing" data-sv-targetauto="true" href="https://www.annarbor.org/listing/ann-arbor-bed-and-breakfast/715/" target="_blank">Ann Arbor Bed and Breakfast</a>, located on the edge of the University of Michigan campus in my hometown.</p>

<p>My parents started this Bed and Breakfast in 2003, creating an eclectic and funky - and above all, welcoming! - B&amp;B with whimsical decor and creature comforts throughout their home and business.<strong> </strong><strong>Guests frequently comment on the friendliness of Ann Arbor, and that is the vibe that we try to imbue in our bed and breakfast.</strong></p>

<p>When you walk up the stairs to our second floor living area, you are greeted by a wagon full of stuffed penguins and oversized framed pages from a vintage Dick and Jane book. Our living room boasts several shelves full of antique toys, and our deck overflows with containers of plants.<br />
&nbsp;</p>

<h5><strong>We want you to make yourself at home, to relax, and enjoy the ambiance.&nbsp;&nbsp;</strong></h5>

<p>While our guests have always appreciated the free snacks and home-cooked breakfast, the key draw is (admittedly) our location. Not only are we on the northern edge of the U-M campus, but we are also across the street from the Power Center and Rackham Auditorium, with the Michigan League a block further. It is a five-minute walk to State Street, and less than a mile to the shops and restaurants on Main Street. We are just a few blocks from the Kerrytown neighborhood with its&nbsp;<a data-sv-linklookup-id="2215" data-sv-linklookup-type="plugins_listings_listing" data-sv-targetauto="true" href="https://www.annarbor.org/listing/ann-arbor-farmers-market/2215/" target="_blank">farmer&rsquo;s market</a> and always popular <a data-sv-linklookup-id="1416" data-sv-linklookup-type="plugins_listings_listing" data-sv-targetauto="true" href="https://www.annarbor.org/listing/zingermans-delicatessen/1416/" target="_blank">Zingerman&rsquo;s Deli</a>, and the world renowned University of Michigan Medical Center is a few blocks in the other direction.</p>

<strong>Ann Arbor B&amp;B has five rooms, and&nbsp;we host a vast array of travelers.</strong></h5>

<p>We&#39;ve welcomed mathematicians from Thailand, France, and the Czech Republic here to meet with U-M colleagues and give seminars on their respective research projects. Improv performers, artists, and medical professionals make small talk over breakfast. My favorite morning was when two women who were both here &ldquo;just to see Ann Arbor&rdquo; and discovered that they shared a mutual passion for death metal music. These interactions might only last 15 minutes, but they result in a bright start to the day, making connections they might otherwise miss out on.<br />
&nbsp;</p>

<h5>People often ask what is the best time of year to visit Ann Arbor, and to me there is no bad time to see the city.</h5>

<p>The flowering trees in the <a data-sv-linklookup-id="5cd9fde89157f177c0431684" data-sv-linklookup-type="plugins_nav_navitem_primary_main" data-sv-targetauto="true" href="https://www.annarbor.org/things-to-do/recreation-outdoors/" target="_blank">spring</a> make you realize how we got our name; the <a data-sv-linklookup-id="6488b78aa47f6d6325ec5feb" data-sv-linklookup-type="plugins_nav_navitem_primary_main" data-sv-targetauto="true" href="https://www.annarbor.org/plan/itinerary-ideas/summer-fun/" target="_blank">summer</a> is filled with art fairs and closed off streets for dining and outdoor entertainment. In the <a data-sv-linklookup-id="6491b0e0fff73e27d1038f1b" data-sv-linklookup-type="plugins_nav_navitem_primary_main" data-sv-targetauto="true" href="https://www.annarbor.org/plan/itinerary-ideas/fall-getaway/" target="_blank">fall</a>, students bring their energy and youthful vigor, and during the <a data-sv-linklookup-id="654bdb92a0d2fe1c4a3f674d" data-sv-linklookup-type="plugins_nav_navitem_primary_main" data-sv-targetauto="true" href="https://www.annarbor.org/plan/itinerary-ideas/winter-getaway/" target="_blank">winter</a>, every theater in town has a show to promote, from renowned orchestras and chamber music to student a cappella and musical theater performances.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If you want to spend time outdoors, it is a 15-minute walk to an entrance to the Nichols Arboretum, with 123 acres of trails and valleys to explore, as well as a path along the Huron River. A different kind of Huron River exploration can be obtained by renting a kayak or canoe at the <a data-sv-linklookup-id="751" data-sv-linklookup-type="plugins_listings_listing" data-sv-targetauto="true" href="https://www.annarbor.org/listing/argo-park-%26-nature-area/751/" target="_blank">Argo Park Livery</a>, which is a mile and a half from our B&amp;B.&nbsp;<br />

<h5>Looking for a more academic way to pass the time? Three museums are located right on central campus.</h5>

<p><strong>The <a data-sv-linklookup-id="1328" data-sv-linklookup-type="plugins_listings_listing" data-sv-targetauto="true" href="https://www.annarbor.org/listing/u-m-museum-of-natural-history-and-planetarium/1328/" target="_blank">U-M Natural History</a>, as well as the <a data-sv-linklookup-id="1016" data-sv-linklookup-type="plugins_listings_listing" data-sv-targetauto="true" href="https://www.annarbor.org/listing/kelsey-museum-of-archaeology-u-m/1016/" target="_blank">Archaeology</a> and the <a data-sv-linklookup-id="1351" data-sv-linklookup-type="plugins_listings_listing" data-sv-targetauto="true" href="https://www.annarbor.org/listing/university-of-michigan-museum-of-art/1351/" target="_blank">Art</a> museums are all free to the public</strong>. The Hatcher Graduate library has a rotating exhibit space with contributions from its various collections, and the Law Library is an architectural experience unto itself, with its breathtaking gothic windows and decor. For more contemporary tastes, the <a data-sv-linklookup-id="1357" data-sv-linklookup-type="plugins_listings_listing" data-sv-targetauto="true" href="https://www.annarbor.org/listing/university-of-michigan-stamps-gallery/1357/" target="_blank">Stamps School of Art and Design Gallery</a> brings in a new exhibit every few months.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For shoppers, Ann Arbor has&nbsp;over a half-dozen vintage clothing stores, three shops in which to purchase vinyl records, and a variety of independent used and new bookstores. Kerrytown hosts a year-round farmers market every Saturday and an Artisan market on Sundays from April - December.</p>

<p>Multiple times over the years, artists have declared either from the stage or behind the scenes how much they love Sonic Lunch. It&#39;s such a unique concept, and quite often the artists seem surprised by the solid, enthusiastic turnout week after week. This year, Grammy winner Grace Potter teased the crowd about what they were doing away from work in the middle of the afternoon.</p>

<p>Other nationally known acts who have performed include Los Lobos, Vance Joy, and The Record Company. <p>We&#39;re fortunate to have a variety of talent from all over Michigan take the stage every year, from folks still on the way up to acts who have broken through nationally. A few years ago, young local musician <strong>Rabbitology</strong> was booked as an opening act and absolutely blew everyone away. She has since gone on to play The Ark&#39;s Ann Arbor Folk Fest and more. We are glad to welcome back the occasional &quot;big name&quot; like Grammy-nominated <strong>The War &amp; Treaty</strong> whose trajectory has really taken off in the past few years.<br />
&nbsp;</p>
 <h5><b data-ogsc="">What is the vibe someone could expect that has never attended Sonic Lunch before?</b></h5>

<p>Everyone involved with Sonic Lunch is committed to making sure that the event is truly family friendly and fun. Week after week the crowd spans generations of fans. The vibes are light. <p>Vibrant colors, layered textures and a sense of whimsy define the work of mixed-media artist Erin Hanafin Sweeney. Based in Geneseo, New York, Sweeney uses acrylic paint, collage and oil stick to create her playful and expressive artwork inspired by childhood memories, nature, vintage paint-by-number artwork and &#39;80s pop music.</p>

<p>That philosophy is reflected throughout her collections. Her work balances humor and emotion with colorful nostalgia, inviting viewers to reminisce and embrace everyday moments.</p>

<p>For the 2026 Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair, Sweeney created the commemorative poster &ldquo;Perusing&rdquo;, featuring three expressive geese, which have become a staple of Sweeney&rsquo;s work over the past five years. The layered collage incorporates Ann Arbor-inspired flair and &ldquo;swag,&rdquo; capturing the attitude and personality visitors can expect at this year&rsquo;s fair.</p>

<p>&ldquo;When the Guild asked me if I would make a poster design for them, it was definitely a &lsquo;pinch-me&rsquo; moment in my career,&rdquo; Sweeney said. &ldquo;The Guild was so open to ideas, and they were amazing collaborators. They really let me do my thing and we landed on these three &ldquo;Perusing&rdquo; geese. I couldn&rsquo;t be happier with the way the poster turned out.&rdquo;</p>

<p>&nbsp;Bold pink color palettes, dreamlike imagery and a distinct blend of surreal symbolism and Southwestern influences define Jonah Ballard&rsquo;s paintings. Ballard began painting as a teenager while working in his family&#39;s hand-painted home d&eacute;cor business.</p>

<p>His commemorative poster for the Ann Arbor State Street District Art Fair, &ldquo;Sunset Saguaro&rdquo;, features Ballard&rsquo;s signature vibrant color palette and one of Arizona&rsquo;s most recognizable icons, the saguaro. Ballard frequently uses the cactus as a symbol of self-discovery, allowing it to evolve alongside his own artistic journey.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The saguaro cactus really shaped my career. I started out painting cacti from the very beginning of my interest in art. Seeing the details and style of my saguaro change over the years with the success of my career; and now to bring it to represent such a fantastic show is a perfect chapter in the books,&rdquo; said Ballard.</p>

<p>Ballard&rsquo;s paintings encourage viewers to create their own interpretations, making each piece emotionally and visually engaging. Being selected as a featured artist is an impactful experience for him, an experience that shows how meaningful his art is.<br />

<p>&ldquo;Being selected as the featured artist is such an honor. Ann Arbor State Street was one of the first shows I did when I left Arizona 3 years ago. It was so special because it was the first show where I really saw how impactful my work can be to so many people,&rdquo; Ballard said.</p>

<p>Inspired by years of traveling around the country, Matthew Cornell creates oil panel paintings that emphasize the beauty of Americana, often hidden in everyday places.</p>

<p>Cornell crafts detailed landscapes reminiscent of an American summer road trip across the country. His paintings feature quiet roadside diners, small neighborhood businesses and fading architecture, casting a dreamy lens on the beauty of the country.</p>

<p>Much of his work is inspired by his childhood memories of traveling across the United States, experiences that continue to influence the landscapes he creates.</p>

<p>&ldquo;For the painting that ultimately became the poster for the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, the Original, I was looking for something iconic that best represents Ann Arbor. Something that&rsquo;s easily recognizable and also is visually interesting. Zingerman&lsquo;s and the area that it&rsquo;s in has a lot of the elements and mood that I put in many of my paintings,&rdquo; Cornell said.<br />

Our&nbsp;audiences are singing along and reliving&nbsp;moments tied to the music.<br />

<p>This takes months of collaboration and planning. Scenic, lighting, costume, sound, and props designers all begin work well before rehearsals start. Actors and musicians then spend weeks rehearsing music, choreography, and staging, often six days a week!&nbsp;Sets are built, costumes are fitted, and countless technical details come together behind the scenes. By opening night, hundreds of hours of work from artists, technicians, and staff have shaped what audiences see on stage.<br />
