Things to do in Stafford County
Our growing collection of breweries, wineries and restaurants provides a great entertainment experience. Our outdoor resources include Virginia’s newest state park and lots of opportunities to get out on the trail and on the water. And our arts community is always creating new things.
For the extra adventurous, spend the afternoon on the water and bring a kayak or canoe to Crow’s Nest’s kayak launch, Widewater State Park, Aquia Landing, or Lake Mooney for a morning or afternoon on the water.
Explore Crow’s Nest Natural Area Preserve for its 8 miles of hiking trails along the water, Government Island, or Virginia’s newest State Park, Widewater State Park.
Travel details
Stafford, Virginia, is about 45 miles south of Washington, DC and 50 miles north of Richmond, Virginia. We are located along Interstate 95. We are bordered by the Potomac River on the East.
Interstate-95 bisects the county, north to south, with 5 interchanges at mile markers 148, 143, 140, 136 and 133.
Virginia Railway Express provides weekday commuter service from Stafford’s two stations (Brooke and Leeland)
Amtrak passenger service is also available at nearby Fredericksburg and Quantico stations.
Four major airports are nearby: Washington Reagan, Dulles International, Richmond International, Baltimore-Washington International.
Stafford Regional Airport, a state-of-the-art transportation hub adjacent to I-95, serves local and regional corporate, commercial and recreational aircraft with its 5,000-ft. by 100-ft. runway.
