As part of the burgeoning Metropolitan Phoenix area, Avondale has so much to offer. With two NASCAR races at Phoenix Raceway annually, our city attracts tens of thousands of race fans who come to town for a thrilling experience. Avondale is where racing champions are crowned! We’re also home to a robust youth and amateur sports sector.
As a young, family-oriented community, we welcome families from out of town who are here to participate in a myriad of regional sports tournaments all year round. For nature lovers, Avondale is home to the Tres Rios riparian habitat, miles of hiking/trails, and waterways for kayaking and canoeing.
Things to do in Discover Avondale
Estrella Mountains are home to many outdoor enthusiasts, including extremely professional competitive mountain biking and trail running. As the only Valley city where three rivers converge, Avondale celebrates its lush natural resources with the Tres Rios Nature Festival each spring. The area is also the ideal spot for those who want to try out kayaking, canoeing, or fishing. The scenic Base and Meridian Wildlife area, a rich riparian habitat located along the Gila River, flows with many species of fish, birds, and wildlife. The Tres Rios area is designated as a significant birding corridor by the National Audubon Society.

The nearest major airport is Phoenix Sky Harbor. This airport has international and domestic flights and is 18 miles from Avondale.
