Documentary Film Screening: Historic Homes of Virginia

Join us for a screening of “Patrick Henry’s Scotchtown,” the latest installment in the documentary film series “Historic Homes of Virginia.” This documentary features Professor Michael Spencer and experts from Preservation Virginia to examine Scotchtown during Henry’s years there, including the notes he wrote for his famous “Give me liberty, or give me death!” speech, original construction details, the lives of the enslaved people who lived and worked there and how historic Mutual Assurance policies helped guide the property’s restoration.

About the series: Virginia’s historic homes reveal their stories through both architecture and the records left behind. For more than two centuries, Mutual Assurance Society of Virginia policies have documented many of these properties, preserving details that can help historians and preservationists understand how they changed over time. The film series “Historic Homes of Virginia” brings those records together with the people, places and stories that shaped some of the Commonwealth’s most significant homes.
