The new and improved Keeble Observatory was constructed in summer 2017 and connected to the northeast corner of the Copley Science Center. It houses a state of the art Ritchey-Chretien telescope with a 40 cm primary mirror. Instrumentation includes CCD cameras for photography and photometry.

Keeble Observatory

This site marks the center of the fighting that took place during the Battle of Ware Bottom Church on May 20, 1864. The earthworks, which were constructed over a period of time after that battle, represent some of the largest Howlett Line trenches still in existence. Built with a moat in front, a rifle trench on the back and a wide sloping parapet in between, these works presented a formidable obstacle to Union forces. More than 1500 feet of the earthworks are preserved in the park.

It is held annually in Richmond at Byrd Park, along with an option to participate virtually from anywhere in the world! It's an experience full of hope, light, and positivity for all ages and abilities. Participants encounter fun zones along the course along with the iconic Quote Alley, featuring quotes taken directly from Cameron’s journals.
