The National

Richmond's Landmark Theater, with its opulent Near Eastern style of architecture, was built in 1927 and plays host to a variety of events including Broadway.

The Library of Virginia’s collections are rich with records documenting the lives of African Americans in Virginia. "Virginia Untold: The African American Narrative" project aims to provide greater accessibility to pre-1865 African American history and genealogy found in the rich primary sources in its holdings. We also offer African American genealogy workshops and an African American Research Guide, and sponsor the annual Strong Men & Women in Virginia History program with Dominion Energy.

Explore an archival institution near you in October for American Archives Month, starting with a tour of the Library of Virginia! Archives Month celebrates those institutions and individuals that help to preserve and make accessible the important records of our actions as residents, businesses, religious groups, government and society. This work can give us a sense of being part of a larger picture and helps us begin to recognize our connections to others — family, community, nation or a group defined by ethnicity, religion, work or play.

This guided tour starts at 10 a.m. and will take visitors through the Library's second floor, archival storage, special collections area and the digitization lab. Reserve your spot soon!

This year’s Virginia Archives Month theme is "Remember Me: Death and Memorial in the Archives.”   
After the tour, attendees will have the opportunity to explore other activities as part of the Library’s Archives Month Open House:

- 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. | LVA Open House Tables Library staff members will share information about additional LVA programming including upcoming events and on-going volunteer opportunities.
- 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Makers Station Activity Get crafty at our makers station using images found in archival collections from across the Commonwealth to create your own Victorian mourning card.
