We’re a community of runners, hikers, bikers and ballplayers. We’re an outdoor playground, designed by Mother Nature, with class III and IV rapids running right through our downtown. A 52-mile bike trail runs along the James. The Richmond Marathon and Ukrop’s 10k are huge celebrations, and the whole region comes out to cheer on our local teams. In fact, we’re so sports-minded that the Washington Redskins have their training camp right in the center of the city. Revolutionary ideas for resistance and liberty didn’t just take place in the meeting house or on the field, they took place in the home! Learn how women picked up the mantle for independence in one of the few ways they could – through textiles! Scotchtown staff will lead a discussion on the homespun movement during the 18th century and through our research share how the women of Scotchtown may have participated.

This program runs 2 hours in length, includes a tour of the manor house after the lecture and is being offered at 11am and 1pm.
