Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park owes its existence to Fred Meijer’s love of collecting sculpture. This same passion for three-dimensional art continues to drive contemporary collectors, who have also chosen to build collections heavily focused on sculpture. Although living with sculpture often requires greater commitment and planning than two-dimensional work, such demands are rewarded with the increased power and pleasure afforded by sculptural forms. The Sculpture Forum program, A Material Passion: On Collecting Sculpture & Objects, brings together a diverse roster of collectors who testify to the irresistible pull—and essential value—gained by collecting sculpture and other crafted objects.
