1.75 mi/2.8 km one-way — The Elbow Fork trailhead starts 6.4 miles up Millcreek Canyon on the south side of the road, about 200 feet past a sharp turn. Start walking at the footbridge and proceed through a short series of steep switchbacks to reach an excellent view area. The trail then continues with a gradual ascent and crosses a ridge before descending to the Terraces Picnic Area. With a change in elevation of only 430 feet, this trail is great for families. Situated on the north-facing slope, the trail is shaded, making it a perfect choice for summer hikes.

Market Street Oyster Bar - Cottonwood

Secluded in pine trees, The Hog Wallow Pub is located kitty-corner to the historic Old Mill ruin at the base of Big Cottonwood Canyon. It is the latest reincarnation of the oldest and most notorious bar in the Cottonwood Heights area. Established in 1947 by a returning World War II veteran who converted an abandoned Civilian Conservation Corps bunkhouse into an out-of-the-way watering hole he named "The Branding Iron". Over the years the bar has changed names a number of times most notably, The Wagon Wheel, Demete's, The Fox and Bottle Inn and D. J.'s Beer Garden. In 1997 the bar was transformed by Keith Biesinger, into The Hog Wallow Pub. Since it's opening, Hog Wallow has received a number of awards including: City Search's "Best Outdoor Bar," City Weekly's "Best Neighborhood Bar" and "Best Escape From Downtown," and Salt Lake Magazine's "Best Suburban Bar." Most recently 2010 City Weekly proclaimed us the "Best bar to find your fathers name carved in the ceiling" and in 2011 we received Salt Lake Magazine's Best of the Beehive award for "Best Patio." The Ridge Golf Club, originally known as West Ridge, opened in May of 1991. The Gene Bates Design Group was brought in to design a new 18-hole course that would truly cater to players of all abilities. Gene Bates is a renowned architect and his portfolio includes Old Mill, Riverbend, and Soldier Hollow in Midway. After looking at trends in the golf industry it was decided to build a golf course that would challenge and stimulate the low handicap golfer but not at the expense of seniors, women, juniors and new golfers to the game. According to early feedback from those who have toured the property, the new design takes on a feel that resembles golf in southern Utah or Mesquite, Nevada more so than anything locally. West Valley City intends to keep golf affordable so that golfers can expect competitive rates. In conjunction with its sister course, Stonebridge Golf Club, The Ridge will offer the $200 Player's Pass which allows golfers to play 18-holes with a cart for only $14. The Player's Pass is without rival when it comes to keeping golf affordable. Punch cards for frequent play or the driving range will be offered as well. The new golf course will open as a major player in the corporate and charity golf tournament market. With competitive rates and service, and attention to detail, tournament planners will undoubtedly snatch up prime dates for their events.

To reach Big Cottonwood Canyon from Salt Lake City, take I-215 to the 6200 South "Canyons" exit and then continue east on U-152, following signs to Solitude and Brighton. This 15-mile scenic byway takes about one hour round trip. From the main road, this canyon narrows almost immediately into dramatic alpine scenery. This 15-mile drive provides access to excellent hiking, fishing, picnicking, rock climbing, and camping. During the mid-1800s, Old West miners sought their fortune in gold and silver ore here. Remnants of old mines can be spotted from trails winding up the slopes. Located in the Uintah-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, Big Cottonwood Canyon is home to Solitude and Brighton ski resorts. Both have full-service, year-round facilities. From Brighton there are several easy trails leading to various lakes, including Twin Lakes, Lake Mary, Lake Martha, and Dog Lake. The canyon is a protected watershed area and no dogs are permitted. Wilderness areas are located to the north and south.
