Many visitors to the Fresno area are astonished to find a Japanese garden in this very dry, hot valley. The Climate of Japan is similar to the Eastern United States. The plants used in this garden do best in moist, fertile soil with rain and snow. None of these attributes are like Fresno. It was a true leap of imagination to conceive of a Japanese-style garden in Fresno. Their Board of Directors and Advisory Board are committed to furthering the progress of their Shinzen Garden. Yet it is the concern and responsibility of every citizen of Fresno to preserve and protect the Garden for future generations.

The Lewis S. Eaton Trail is the backbone of the growing trail network central to the planned 22-mile San Joaquin River Parkway. The main trail currently offers more than 5 paved miles through Woodward Park and beyond, with wide dirt shoulders for those who prefer running off road. The trail presents views of the San Joaquin River bottom and distant Sierra Nevada mountains as the route heads north along the river bluffs. Spur trails in Woodward Park offer a natural surface alternative for equestrian users. In the north, the trail ends at the Coke Hallowell Center for River Studies, where you can learn about the cultural and natural history of the river and its adjacent lands.

Washington) is Fresno's NEWEST California CERTIFIED neighborhood Farmers Market, brought to you by the California Fresh Farmers Market Association. The 24th Annual Zinkin Classic returns on December 18–19, 2026, at Buchanan High School in Clovis, California. Hosted by Buchanan Wrestling, this premier two-day wrestling tournament draws top athletes from across the state and Central Valley for elite competition. Named in honor of the Zinkin family—pioneers in wrestling and fitness—the event celebrates a legacy of athletic excellence and community spirit. The 12th Annual Lady Apache Invitational is a premier girls wrestling tournament hosted by Sanger Wrestling at Sanger High School. Taking place January 16–17, 2027, this two-day event brings together top junior varsity and varsity wrestlers from across the region for a competitive showcase of skill and sportsmanship. Hosted by Sanger Wrestling, the tournament features multiple weight classes, elite coaching, and a supportive environment designed to highlight rising talent and foster growth in the sport.
