Since 2004, Haunts of Richmond has been the city’s premier haunted history tour company, offering visitors a captivating way to experience Richmond after dark. Haunts of Richmond Ghost Tours

The Enchanted Garden was designed in 1921 as Virginia's first monument to a writer and its layout was taken directly from Poe's poem "To One in Paradise." Look for plants mentioned in his literary works among a pergola, walls, paths, and benches created from materials salvaged from buildings where Poe lived or worked. Garden secret: The ivy came from Poe's mother's grave in St. John's Church.

Because Richmond’s canals were so narrow, “turning basins” were specially constructed so long barges and passenger boats could turn around. Richmond’s original Great Basin stood between 8th and 11th streets and Cary and Canal streets, and was connected by a series of locks to the Richmond dock. In 1998, a new turning basin for the restored canal was constructed between Virginia and 14th streets. Public art commemorates the original Great Basin as the center of commerce. You will find this installation in the James Center Atrium located next to the Omni Richmond Hotel at 12th and Cary streets. The Great Turning Basin historic marker can be reached from the intersection of South 10th and East Cary streets. More than 22 historic markers are within walking distance of the Turning Basin and Riverfront Canal Walk.

Turning Basin

The 40-minute, historically narrated tours of the James River and Kanawha Canal operate throughout the season, seven days a week from May through October, and with varying hours in April and November. The boat tours travel along downtown Richmond's Canal Walk and review centuries of Richmond’s history, from Powhatan’s Chiefdom to the first commercially successful electric streetcar in the world, all while traveling in authentically styled boats. Tours depart on the hour from the canal’s Turning Basin at 139 Virginia Street, in Downtown Richmond. Boats can accommodate up to 25 passengers and are handicap accessible. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis at the Turning Basin’s ticket kiosk and online 18 hours in advance by visiting RiverfrontCanalCruises.com. Canal Cruise private charters are also available as one- or two-hour private boat tours that are a favorite for reunions, birthdays, engagements, corporate retreats, churches, clubs, and so many more group outings. Riverfront Canal Cruises

We’re a community of runners, hikers, bikers and ballplayers. We’re an outdoor playground, designed by Mother Nature, with class III and IV rapids running right through our downtown. A 52-mile bike trail runs along the James. The Richmond Marathon and Ukrop’s 10k are huge celebrations, and the whole region comes out to cheer on our local teams. The Haunt is a South Florida alternative rock band led by siblings Anastasia and Maxamillion Haunt, whose music combines dark pop melodies, punk attitude, and emotionally charged modern rock.
