The Stony Run Trail trailhead is located at the intersection of Ashcake Road and South Center Street. Residents and visitors can bike, walk, hike, or run on the Stony Run Trail. The trail exits to the west at the southern end of South James Street, approximately one block from DeJarnette Park and three blocks from Henry Clay Elementary School.

Parkers Battery is a well-preserved example of the Confederate defenses known as the Howlett Line. The site was manned by Parker’s “Boy Company” comprised of men from the City of Richmond. Infantry trenches ran from the James River south to the Appomattox River, supported by artillery positions along the line. Parker’s Battery was involved in frequent duels with Federal positions located less than one mile east. Confederate forces occupied this site until the fall of Petersburg, when they joined Lee on his retreat to Appomattox. Parker’s Battery features a walking trail with several interpretive signs. The parks close at sunset.

Falling Creek has two distinct but related industries superimposed upon one another. One was the 1619-1622 first iron blast furnace in the New World, heralding the great industrial might of what became the United States. The other is a 1750-1781 iron forge, begun by a wealthy industrial entrepreneur, and continued as part of the manufacturing base in the fight for American independence in the Revolutionary War. Both were ended by wartime events. Both water powered industries at Falling Creek were lost from view only to re-emerge in the late 20th and early 21st centuries as signature site types. Today, Falling Creek is part of the Chesterfield County Parks system. If you stand on the promontory to the north of where old Marina Drive ends, you can see the entire site. Open dawn to dusk. Free.

Falling Creek Ironworks

Site of a militia position during Benedict Arnold's 1781 raid on the City of Richmond and also a British rest stop. It is currently part of the Virginia Capital Bike Trail with parking, restrooms, trail access, and historic markers about colonial and Civil War History.

Deep Bottom Park

Ride your boat, pier fish, or picnic on the James River. Deep Bottom Park features two boat ramps for access to the James River and a canoe launch on Four Mile Creek. Picnic facilities and fishing are also available at this site. The park grounds and boat ramp access are available from dawn to dusk.

Artspace is pleased to announce its upcoming 2026 Member Biennial exhibition,  
Duets: Artspace Artist Members & Their Guests. Running from October through December 2026,  
this expansive exhibition celebrates the power of creative partnership, bringing together Artspace  
artist members and invited guest artists in a dynamic visual and conceptual dialogue.  
The main exhibition will be hosted at Artspace Gallery in the Stratford Hills Shopping Center from  
October 23 through December 19, 2026. In addition, Artspace is debuting a special satellite  
exhibition at Corporate Museum & Frameon Broad Street in downtown Richmond, running  
from October 2 through December 19, 2026.  
About the Exhibition  
Curated by Michael A. Pierce, Artspace Vice President for Membership, Duets challenges artists to  
step outside the solitary confines of the studio to embrace collaboration, shared life connections, and  
creative vulnerability. The resulting collection spans a rich variety of media—including painting,  
ceramics, textile sculpture, photography, assemblage, and artist books—showcasing pairings that  
range from harmonious aesthetic alignments to compelling contrasts. "Art is rarely born in a vacuum; it sometimes thrives on connection, conversation, and the unexpected  
sparks that fly when two creative minds meet," says curator Michael A. Pierce. "The works presented  
in Duets represent an incredible breadth of experimentation and trust, expanding our definition of  
community and fostering a more vibrant, thoughtful world."  
A fully illustrated, professional exhibition catalog designed by Robert Meganck accompanies the  
show, with print sponsorship generously provided by Worth Higgins & Associates.
