Chewacla State Park covers 696 scenic acres only minutes from Auburn University. It’s the perfect place to rest, relax, and recharge. Visitors can enjoy a 26-acre lake, a swimming area, a playground, a campground, picnic areas with tables, grills, and shelters, cozy cabins, and a variety of hiking and mountain biking trails. Activities: Lake Chewacla is perfect for reeling in bream, bass, crappie, and catfish or taking a dip off the beach area. No luck in the lake, then try one of the two creeks in the park. There is no boat ramp on the lake, but visitors are allowed to bring their own small non-motorized watercraft such as canoes or kayaks if they can be hand-launched from the bank. Canoe rentals are available Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (closing times change during the year based on park hours of operations). Guests can rent canoes by going to the beach access area and talking to a representative. Rentals can be made as late as 30 minutes before the park closes. Walk-up rentals are available March-October. Canoe rentals during the “off season” and for 3-hour or 7-hour rentals can be made by calling “The Chill Spot” at (334) 703-6286. Glamping is now available at Chewacla through a partnership with Timberline Glamping. These fully furnished safari tents include beds, A/C and heating, mini-fridges, Keurigs, and electrical outlets. Each site also offers hammocks, string lights, a picnic table, and a fire ring. It’s a great option for guests who want to enjoy nature without giving up everyday comforts. The park features a wide variety of hiking and mountain biking trails to choose from. Options range from the short interpretive Sweet Shrub Trail to the more challenging mountain biking trails built by the Central Alabama Mountain Pedalers (CAMP). While on the trails visitors are likely to see squirrels, chipmunks, red fox, deer, and turkeys; as well as unique rock formations and a variety of native flora and fauna.

CAMP’s Ladies Saturday Group Ride takes place Saturdays from 10–11:30 a.m. at Chewacla State Park, weather permitting.

Spend Saturday morning exploring Chewacla’s trails alongside a supportive community of women who love getting outside. The group ride welcomes everyone from first-time mountain bikers and riders getting back on a bike to those who already feel at home on the trails.

Riders will meet in the second parking lot at Chewacla State Park before splitting into smaller groups based on experience and pace. Routes are decided together based on the riders who attend, and the group follows a no-drop policy so no rider is left behind.

Can’t stay for the full ride? No problem. Riders can be guided safely back to the parking lot at any point. Rides are weather permitting.

Ladies Mountain Bike Ride

Limitbreaker Lockdown will take place October 2-4 at Lake Wilmore Park Recreational Center in Auburn. This gymnastics meet will feature athletes competing in Levels 1-5, Xcel, and HUGS, with participants, coaches, families, and spectators expected throughout the weekend. Limit Breakers Lockdown Gymnastics Meet

The 2026 Powerball Alabama State Championship, presented by Carvana PPA Tour and Southern Pickleball, will take place October 2-4 at the Opelika Pickleball Complex. The tournament will feature singles, doubles, mixed doubles, and junior divisions for a wide range of age groups and skill levels, with play beginning as early as 8 a.m. each day. Spectators are welcome to come out and watch the competition throughout the weekend, and players can register beginning June 1. Alabama Bass Federation Open Challenge 

The 2026 ITA DI Men's Southern Regional Championship is a collegiate tennis tournament hosted at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, from October 8–12, 2026. Designed for NCAA Division I men's players, the competition is limited to up to 32 players and features Men's Open singles and doubles events. Organized through the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the tournament gives eligible college athletes an opportunity to compete in a regional championship format.
