Richmond Slave Trail is a walking trail that chronicles the history of the trade of enslaved Africans from Africa to Virginia until 1775, and away from Virginia, especially Richmond, to other locations in the Americas until 1865. It begins at Manchester Docks, a major port in the massive downriver Slave Trade that made Richmond the largest source of enslaved Africans on the east coast of America from 1830 to 1860. The trail then follows a route through the slave markets of Richmond, beside the Reconciliation Statue commemorating the international triangular slave trade, past Lumpkin's Slave Jail and the Negro Burial Ground to First African Baptist Church, a center of African-American life in pre-Civil War Richmond.

Located at 28th and E. Franklin Streets, Libby Hill Park is one of the three original parks in Richmond's park system. It was originally called Marshall Square, and the view from Libby Hill Park is said to so closely resemble the view of Richmond on the Thames in England that it gave the city its name. In addition to its magnificent view, the park has an ornamental fountain, a small park house, and a monument erected in 1894 for Confederate soldiers and sailors. The park is open from sunrise to sunset.

Chimborazo Medical Museum sits on the site of the Civil War’s famous Chimborazo Hospital, where between 1861 and 1865, more than 75,000 Confederate soldiers received treatment.

After capturing Fort Harison on September 29, 1864, Federal troops built a 2 1/2-mile line of fortifications connecting the Union position from Fort Harrison (later renamed Fort Burnham) to Fort Brady here on the James River.

Maggie L. Walker Historic Site commemorates the life of a progressive African-American woman who grew up in post-Civil War Richmond and was the first Black female founder/president of a chartered bank in the United States.

Visitors are urged to begin their park visit at the National Park Service Civil War Visitor Center at Tredegar Iron Works. The Center offers exhibits and audio-visual programs that introduce the story of Richmond during the Civil War and the battlefields and related sites that surround the city. Park staff will answer questions and provide information to help you make the best use of your time.

With multiple distances for various fitness levels, choose from a Half Marathon, 10-Mile, 5K or 1-Mile (12 & under Mummy Mile), then celebrate at the Finish Line Party Zone with music, cold beer, local vendors, and special awards. You’ll also find Party Pacers and Cheer Stations along the course, brought to you by our 2026 Charity Partner, We Off the Couch.
