The Virginia Museum of History & Culture is owned and operated by the Virginia Historical Society—a private, non-profit organization. The historical society is the oldest cultural organization in Virginia, and one of the oldest and most distinguished history organizations in the nation. The Virginia Museum of History & Culture, headquartered in the Museum District in Richmond, is a history museum, research library, and educational facility all wrapped in one. The 184-year-old VHS features award-winning museum exhibitions about all kinds of Virginia-related topics. The Society is the only museum in the world with all of Virginia's history under one roof. The vast collections of the VHS includes 8 million manuscripts; 150,000 books; over 5,000 maps; 1,200 newspaper titles and 300 serials; more than 4,000 pieces of sheet music; more than 1,000 paintings; 200,000 photographs; and more than 25,000 museum objects including textiles, silver, furniture, weaponry, and more.

Claiborne and Lora Robins Sculpture Garden is part of one of the top comprehensive art museums in the U.S. The VMFA takes art outside for a memorable experience in an environment of changing light, climate and seasons. The 3 ½-acre Garden is an organic and free flowing space inspired by Virginia's waterfalls and woodland paths. The VMHC is thrilled to host the exclusive Mid-Atlantic engagement of Barbie™: A Cultural Icon, a major exhibition tracing the 65-year history of Barbie® through fashion, media, and cultural evolution.  
  
This vibrant, multi-sensory experience celebrates one of the most iconic and influential figures in global popular culture. Drawn from the private collection of David Porcello and Mattel, the exhibition features more than 250 vintage dolls, immersive environments, original fashion designs, advertisements, ephemera, and exclusive designer interviews.  
  
Visitors to the exhibition will trace the evolution of Barbie® from a child’s toy to a global icon, exploring the style trends, careers, and identities that Barbie® has embodied and popularized since her debut in 1959.
