Healing Thyme

I-15 exit 272. Follow 800 North (SR-52) east until you come to US-189 and Provo Canyon. This 28-mile byway winds through wide, wonderful Provo Canyon where dynamic forces of a past era are revealed in the canyon’s gnarled rock walls and jagged rock formations. Bridal Veil Falls can be seen from the road, and there is a parking area if you want to take a longer look. At the top of the canyon is Deer Creek Reservoir with sailing, boating, fishing, and windsurfing. The byway ends in Heber Valley—home of the Heber Valley Historic Railroad, and Soldier Hollow, a network of cross-country trails built for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and available to the public. A worthwhile side trip is the Alpine Scenic Loop (SR-92), a narrow, windy road famous for fall color drives. It leads past Sundance Resort, the Uinta National Forest, and Timpanogos Cave National Monument.

Provo Canyon

Utah's largest freshwater lake provides fishing access for channel catfish, walleye, white bass, black bass, and several species of panfish. Spend an evening RV or tent camping, then powerboat, canoe, or sail the day away on Utah Lake.

Deer Creek State Park lies in the southwest corner of beautiful Heber Valley and consistently provides some of Utah's finest year-round fishing. Anglers fish for rainbow trout, brown trout, perch, large mouth bass, small mouth bass, and walleye. Beautiful Deer Creek reservoir is also extremely popular for boating, wind surfing, sunbathing, swimming, and sailboating.

With 60 complete dinosaur skeletons, this museum has one of the world’s largest displays of mounted dinosaurs. More than 50 hands-on exhibits, like the Erosion Table and the Quarry Dig, make interacting with pre-history easier than ever before. You can even watch our paleontologists and volunteers unearth a 150-million-year-old Barosaurus. Whether you come by day or by night, the Museum of Ancient Life is a lively adventure that you’ll never forget.

The amazing Eremotherium laurillardi, more commonly known as the Giant Ground Sloth, is now on display at the Museum of Ancient Life! This specimen was discovered alongside two other Giant Ground Sloths in 1975 in Daytona, Florida. After nearly 40 years of investigation, preparation, and sorting, this herbivore will be on display in the lobby of the Museum of Ancient Life until 2024.
