Intercollegiate National Championships

Founded in 1948, the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) provides qualified individuals with physical disabilities the opportunity to play, learn and compete in the sport of wheelchair basketball. The NWBA values unequivocal excellence in all aspects of the organization; we strive for excellence with integrity and respect; we recognize our rich tradition as a solid foundation; we celebrate the development of our members and our community; and we believe in the pursuit of competitive excellence always. The NWBA is the longest standing and largest Disabled Sports Organization (DSO) in the world. Currently, the NWBA serves over 2,300 individual players, and 210 teams. These players include men, women, youth, and veterans who have a physical disability. Wheelchair basketball is played at various skill and competition levels.

A collaboration model has been developed and adopted by the NWBA. The basic premise of this model is that the non-profit, private, and public sectors will leverage their respective strengths in an effort to attain the NWBA’s fund raising goal. In addition, funds for identified priorities will include contributions from multiple partners. No single entity will be responsible for funding a project. The goal is to fund these community priorities through collaboration.Key Affiliations include: USA Basketball, National Basketball Association (NBA), United States Olympic Committee (USOC), USA Paralympics, and International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF). In addition, the NWBA has partnerships with the Lakeshore Foundation and SPIRE Institute - officially designated USOC and USA Paralympic Training Sites. We are also involved with college programs in eight universities that allows members to be student athletes....many with basketball scholarships. Universities include the University of Texas, Illinois, Missouri, Alabama and Auburn
