A local favorite, the Steamtown Marathon occurs annually in October. The marathon course runs through 14 Lackawanna County communities, including 4.2 miles of paved trails along the Lackawanna River. It begins in Forest City, and runners cross the finish line in Downtown Scranton in front of Courthouse Square.

The Steamtown Marathon is a nationally recognized, USATF certified event that has been ranked by Runner’s World as the 6th best overall marathon and a top 10 marathon for first-time marathoners.

It's a participant favorite because locals embrace the race and come out in full force to cheer runners on! The locals decorate with signs, swing cowbells, play music, and occasionally offer adult beverages to runners as they near the course finish. Runners also love to arrive early in the area and carb up with delicious pasta and pizza at our amazing restaurants.
