Steven J. Underwood Memorial Park consists of over 20 acres of recreational opportunities! The newly renovated Baseball themed playground is great for kids of all ages and has a shade sail in place to protect them from the sun on hot days. Three ballfields are rentable in Spring and Summer months for practices, tournaments, and more. The West side of the park backs up to the Senior Activity Center, which allows all users to take advantage of the extensive paved walking trails. If you stop by on a weekend, you may be treated to one of the many public events hosted here by Des Moines Parks & Recreation! Gates are unlocked daily at dawn and locked at dusk, providing access to ample parking and public restroom facilities.

The Des Moines Field House is the only full-log cabin in Washington State.  It was completed in 1939 as part of a Depression-era recovery program and received designation as a King County Historic Landmark in 1984.  The park itself features Tennis Courts (also lined for Pickleball), Ball Fields, a Concrete Skate Park, Picnic Shelter with Barbeque, Port-A-Potty Restrooms, and a large playground that was completely remodeled and upgraded in 2024.

The 2026 9U PG Harvest Slugfest (Saturday Only) is a premier youth baseball tournament hosted by Perfect Game, the world’s largest and most respected amateur baseball scouting organization. Held on October 3, 2026, at Steven J Underwood Memorial Park in Des Moines, Washington, this single-day event offers young athletes born on or after May 1, 2017 the chance to compete on premium turf fields with professional officiating. Participants will enjoy efficient tournament management, high-quality facilities, and opportunities to boost player and team rankings through scouting coverage and social media exposure. Registration is open now for 9U teams seeking a competitive and well-organized baseball experience.

Boofest Jamboree

**2026 Emerald City Cup** returns to Starfire Sports in Tukwila on **October 31 – November 1, 2026**, bringing together top boys lacrosse teams from across the region for a weekend of high-level competition. Teams from **3rd/4th grade through High School Varsity** will compete in a guaranteed **five-game format**, including pool play followed by playoff or consolation games. Hosted by CitySide Lax, the tournament emphasizes competitive matchups, player development, and a first-class event experience for athletes, coaches, and families.

Experience the excitement of the **NWAC Soccer Championships**, where the conference’s top teams compete for a championship title.

Championship action takes place on **Friday, November 13, and Sunday, November 15**, giving soccer fans two days to cheer on talented NWAC student-athletes as they battle their way toward the title.

The newly upgraded turf ball fields at Steven J. Underwood Memorial Park are part of a multi-use athletic complex featuring three competition-level softball/baseball fields designed for practices, league play, and tournaments.  A partnership between Perfect Game and the City made the conversion to turf possible. Set within a park of over 20 acres, the fields include amenities such as lighting, covered dugouts, restrooms, and nearby parking, making them suitable for both daytime and evening games. Surrounded by walking trails and other recreational facilities, the ball fields serve as a central hub for community sports and outdoor activity.
