The Newfoundland and Labrador Sport Centre is home to the PowerPlex and Dr. Noel Browne High-Performance Centre. Opening in 2008, this facility includes 5,000 sq. ft. of world-class strength and conditioning space and is situated on the same site as the Swilers Rugby Complex. The venue is conveniently located in the heart of St. John’s, in close proximity to hotels, the downtown core and the St. John’s International Airport, making it an ideal host for a variety of competitions and training camps.
The PowerPlex multi-sport facility has one of the largest high-performance hardwood sports floors in Canada at 64m x 46m, while the Crosbie and Parsons gymnasium has four basketball courts and seven volleyball or seven badminton courts that are playable at any one time. The Centre has the largest hardwood floor east of Montreal, which can be sub-divided into four equal spaces, providing it with the ability to accommodate any number of teams at one time.
The venue has played host to a number of competitions over the years, including VolleyFest, Sportfest (2011), Eastern Canadian Gymnastics Championships (2013), World Cup of Darts (2013) and the 2014 Canadian Boccia Championships.
