Jack White Stadium

Judge White is probably best known today for his role in organizing the initiative to build a sports stadium at Clearwater High School.

He was deeply committed to the community and believed strongly in youth sports as a cornerstone of character-building. When his three sons attended Clearwater High School in the 1940's he eagerly went to not only every football game, but also occasionally team practices as well. An avid athlete, he had fun outrunning the teenagers in footraces.

When the bond initiative was passed and the stadium built, others involved wanted to name the stadium after him, but he demurred. Finally in 1963, he relented. His law clerk at the Second District Court of Appeals in Lakeland and now retired local attorney, Woody Weidemeyer, reports that he wrestled with the decision even then. Judge White passed away from stomach cancer in May of 1965.
