About Tommy Thompson Trail

Tommy Thompson Trail is a 3.3-mile paved, non-motorized rail-to-trail pathway in Anacortes connecting downtown along Fidalgo Bay to March Point. Originally constructed beginning in 2000, the trail follows an abandoned railroad corridor and offers a flat, scenic route ideal for walking, running, and biking.

The trail provides sweeping views of Fidalgo Bay, Mount Baker, the Cascade Mountains, and the region’s working shoreline, with frequent wildlife sightings including blue herons, seals, and sea lions. A highlight of the route is the wooden trestle and causeway crossing Fidalgo Bay, offering a rare opportunity to traverse the bay at water level.
