  The Chamizal National Memorial is more than just an urban park to recreate or enjoy a quiet afternoon. These grounds are a reminder of the harmonious settlement of a 100-year border dispute between the United States and Mexico. It celebrates the cultures of the borderlands to promote the same mutual respect that helped to diplomatically resolve an international disagreement. The El Paso Sports Commission, a private non-profit organization since 2003, works with top regional, national and international organizers to bring in some of the highest quality, world-class sporting events to the El Paso area through hard work, strategic marketing, financial guidance and event promotion.

The Commission also oversees several venues, including the El Paso County Coliseum, which hosts between 125 and 150 performances a year, which includes a variety of concerts, festivals, sports competitions and other events.

Earlier this year, May 2025,  SAC II proudly hosted the Region 19 Female Flag Football Pilot and Championship. Sponsored by the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Zebra Sports, and the El Paso Sports Commission, the initiative was created to promote female participation in athletics and expand competitive opportunities in one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. 

In the past, we have hosted and sponsored a wide variety of sporting events that have brought in national recognition and substantial sports tourism dollars into the Sun City by way of hotel rooms, rental cars, restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Some major events include the United States Bowling Congress Women’s and Open Bowling Championships, the Senior Softball USA Texas State Championships, the Conference USA Basketball Championships and the Texas Hispanic Softball Championships, as well as football, running, volleyball, biking and boxing competitions, and a variety of other events and tournaments.
