Barton Hall

Iconic Barton Hall, the home of the Cornell indoor track team since the 1920s, received a stunning face-lift in 2016 that resulted in a brand new track surface. After the multi-million dollar effort, Barton Hall continues to provide a unique and one of a kind experience, blending a historic building structure with a state-of-the-art indoor track and field facility.

The new track was custom-made for Barton Hall by Beynon Sports Surfaces. The Beynon-1000 track features 8, 42-inch lanes on the home-straightaway for the sprints and hurdles and 6, 42-inch lanes around the 200 meter oval as well as 8 sprint lanes in the center of the oval for training purposes. The radius is the widest allowable by the NCAA for NCAA-qualifying purposes and makes Barton Hall one of the premiere indoor facilities in the East as top athletes continue to congregate in Ithaca to achieve NCAA and USATF-qualifying performances.

In addition to the sprinting straight-away and oval, the track features two dedicated high jump aprons, two pole vault runways and two long jump/triple jump runways. The throwing cage, long one of the finest in the nation remains an indelible part of the building as well. The cage includes a cement circle and crush dust landing sector surrounded by a 25-foot high chain link fence.

In 1995, Barton received another major change with the addition of the H. Hunt Bradley Track Center. The center includes a recently upgraded Hall of Fame/meeting room/study facility for the track team, as well as an office and library, and a 2000-square foot weight room. Adjacent to the Bradley Center, the team also boasts a cardio training facility in Barton Hall which includes an Alter-G anti-gravity treadmill for the exclusive use of the men’s and women’s track program.
