This historic 70-year-old stadium needed a major renovation and modernization.  This project was phased to meet the school’s budget.  To accommodate an 8 lane – 400-meter track, PLJBD worked with the city to reconfigure an adjacent road and relocate the visitor's bleachers.

The Joplin Sports Authority is a 501(c)(3) not-for- profit sports commission with the mission to attract, promote, provide and support local, state, regional, national and international sporting events to the Joplin area. This in return will provide positive economic impact and enhance the quality of life for the residents of the Joplin area. In November 2000, voters of Joplin approved a two percent tax on hotel and motel lodging designated for the promotion of sports marketing, entryway beautification and festivals. In January 2008, JSA became an independent contractor with the City of Joplin and currently has an administration board that consists of 15 members, four of those being the executive committee. The Joplin Sports Authority has proven history of successful events ranging from the USA Baseball Tournament of Stars to the NSCA U.S. Open Sporting Clay Championship and the Missouri Special Olympics Winter Indoor Games. Currently, the Joplin Sports Authority has partnerships with numerous national governing bodies — NCAA Division II, NAIA, NJCAA Region 16, AAU Track and Field, USA Track and Field, Missouri Christian School Athletic Association, USSSA, Missouri Special Olympics and Premier Baseball — and is pursuing partnerships with other national governing bodies.
